Catholic Teaching on Abortion

The recent controversy over the Irish abortion-after-rape case has left some
people confused about where the Catholic Church stands on the matter of
abortion. During the debate occasioned by that tragic situation (and the
ghoulish interest of the media) it was sometimes suggested, even at times by
Catholic politicians and scholars, that Catholic teaching on abortion is
unclear. Yet in its earliest teachings and down through the centuries to
modern times, the Church has consistently and unequivocally condemned abortion
as a grave moral and social wrong. The Church argues its position on clear
philosophical grounds, rather than any special revelation private to
Catholics.

The Fifth Commandment: Thou shalt not kill forms the basis of church
teaching and civil law prohibiting murder, suicide and abortion. This
teaching was reinforced by Christ’s teaching “Love your neighbour as
yourself.” The Psalms emphasized that man is made in God’s image and
likeness. We come from God. We go to God. We belong to God. Psalm 138:
13-14 states: “For it was you who created my being, knit me together in my
mother’s womb. I thank you for the wonder of my being.” End Quote

In summary: No Catholic can vote for ANY National Democratic Party candidate as their National Party Platform actively promotes Abortion & Gay Marriages; both which are opposed to God’s Divine Will. Doing so is a Mortal sin under ANY circumstances, as these candidates hold the Power to make Laws in support of these immoral actions, as evidenced in the Obama Presidency.

My friend this is the Church’s Teaching; not simply my own personal opinion. Amen! [I DO Believe]

I am writing this pastoral letter to you to clarify some issues regarding Catholic doctrine and practice which have been raised recently in the public media.

1. Catholics who support abortion and euthanasia place themselves in direct opposition to church doctrine regarding the obligation to support human life from conception to natural death.1 Therefore, any Catholics in this archdiocese who publicly support abortion or euthanasia may not be in any teaching, ministerial or liturgical ministry or be a member of any parish or archdiocesan council END QUOTE

Know that you made the right, the ONLY right choice in joining the Only Church and Faith desired, founded and guided by God Personally.

Gaging from Senator McCain, Arizona, somewhat similar to California tends towards the political left. That is also reflected in the screwy advice you’ve been getting.

My name is Pat and I’m a now retired Trained, certified, and experienced Catholic Catechist [teacher] of our Faith. With over 1 Billion worldwide Catholics, there are going to be some who knowingly or not, are off the reservation. Sadly this includes on some issues, our current Pope. [Different topic].

My last 3 years of face to face teaching was with RCIA, and even though programs differ greatly, I do have some idea on what is taught,

I’m now 73 years old, and until Regan was also a “Life-long-Democrat.” But my friend, today’s Democratic Party is anything except democratic. THEY Legislate Abortion and legalized Gay/homosexual “marriages.”

1783 Conscience must be informed and moral judgment enlightened. A well-formed conscience is upright and truthful. It formulates its judgments according to reason, in conformity with the true good willed by the wisdom of the Creator. The education of conscience is indispensable for human beings who are subjected to negative influences and tempted by sin to prefer their own judgment and to reject authoritative teachings.
1784 The education of the conscience is a lifelong task. From the earliest years, it awakens the child to the knowledge and practice of the interior law recognized by conscience. Prudent education teaches virtue; it prevents or cures fear, selfishness and pride, resentment arising from guilt, and feelings of complacency, born of human weakness and faults. The education of the conscience guarantees freedom and engenders peace of heart.

2322 From its conception, the child has the right to life. Direct abortion, that is, abortion willed as an end or as a means, is a “criminal” practice (GS 27 § 3), gravely contrary to the moral law. The Church imposes the canonical penalty of excommunication for this crime against human life.

2272 Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. “A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,” “by the very commission of the offense,” and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law. The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.
