Hello,

Pope Names 23 New Cardinals
2 U.S. Prelates Among Those Named

The consistory, the second of the Pope’s pontificate, will be held Nov. 24, the eve of the solemnity of Christ the King, the Vatican press office said today.

“The new cardinals,” the Pope said at the end of today’s general audience, "come from various parts of the world. And the universality of the Church, with the multiplicity of her ministries, is clearly reflected in them…

Many years to HH Patriarch Emmanuel!!

I think some Eastern or Oriental Catholics here have complained about the cardinalship of Eastern Patriarchs, but I think it is great. The Eastern Hierarchs should also have a say in the election of the Pope.

<<I think some Eastern or Oriental Catholics here have complained about the cardinalship of Eastern Patriarchs,>>

Keep in mind that an Eastern Patriarch takes precedence over a Latin cardinal.

When the late Patriarch Maximos IV of the Melkites was congratulated on becoming a cardinal, he replied, “This is not a promotion. It’s a DEmotion.”

He accepted it ONLY if a Melkite Bishop were appointed for North America.
