CNA STAFF, Oct 15, 2008 / 04:07 am (CNA).- Pro-life advocates have warned that a new non-invasive pre-natal test for Down syndrome could increase ?eugenic? abortions. The new test, which checks a baby?s DNA, has been developed by researcher Dr. Stephen Quake and his team at Stanford University.http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/catholicnewsagency/dailynews/~4/421393936

This quote from the article is just so wrong:

“It’s therefore incredibly important that potential parents are given accurate information on Down’s syndrome before they make a choice about whether to terminate or not.”

Growing up, I had the Coolest uncle any kid could want. He laughed at all my silly jokes and gave me hugs and smiles when the world “dumped” on me. He Loved me and I Loved him.

My dear uncle had Downs Syndrome and was unable to live independently but had no problem making friends and helping others. His heart was kind and giving.

It sickens me to think of what might have happened if his parents were able to have DNA testing before his birth. The world may have never had the incredible gift of his love and smile.

Jesus took my sweet uncle home in 1998, but the memory of his hugs will stay with me forever.
