New English Bible (NEB)

I recently bought a cheaply-priced but very good quality New English Bible (NEB) with the Apocrypha. I was wondering if I can use it as a personal bible, not a study bible or anything like that. Please also put up a link to any website concerning the NEB with your responds. I cannot find that much information on the NEB.

But I had heard that the Revised English Bible (REB) has inclusive language in it. I do not know the extent of the inclusive language that the REB has. What do you recommend, NEB or REB or both?

The NEB is the Bible translation used in Fulton Sheen’s book ‘Life of Christ’. Like mccorm45 mentioned, the Revised English Bible (REB) is the revision of the NEB which was completed in 1989. The NEB and the REB are ecumenical Bibles. The REB was co-sponsored by the Catholic Churches in England/Wales, Ireland and Scotland, it uses mild inclusive language, where as the NEB does not.
 
I got the NEB when it came out, at least 30 yrs ago as a book of the month club selection and have always liked it, possibly because I also like the Ronald Knox translation my dad had (my brother has it now) and it resonates, it is still my favorite, next to the original JB
 
I never read the Knox translation, how is it? Is it like the Douay-Rheims or like the Revised Standard Version?
 
Just received a copy of the Revised English Bible in the mail. I like it. It’s a beautiful translation.

“And now, my friends, I must remind you off the gospel that I preached to you; the gospel which you received, on which you have taken your stand, and which is now bringing you salvation.” 1 Corinthians 15:1
 
I love the REB although occasionally I’ll be reading along and come across something and think “Hmm-I’ve never read that before . . .?” Just a different approach to a particular verse or phrase that is startling in its unfamiliarity. (Of course having said this, I now can’t think of a single example. . . )
 
Where can I get a copy of the Revised English Bible with Apocrypha for cheap? I bought my New English Bible with Apocrypha for $3 at Half-Priced Bookstore.
 
Check used bookstores if you have any around your home. I found a compact NEB in morocco leather (in very nice condition) for $8.50 and a hardback REB for about $6.00
