You ask for evidence, but honestly if you haven’t seen it yet then you’ve already made up your mind because you’re filtering it out or not wanting to understand it, so I don’t see the point in trying to convince you.
This is the same argument used in famous non-negotiable debates such as eugenics, global cooling/warming, and social darwinism. You realize that two reasonable people can view the same evidence and reach different conclusions, yes?

Word for Word? And we have the original texts written by the original authors with perfect translations? Because I specifically remember playing the telephone game and things had a funny way of changing.

My point is not condemning religion here, it’s just that as a rational person, one has to look and see the limitations of the written books - they can serve as guidance sure, but taking them as literal for no reason beyond that that’s what the book says just seems childish.

Of course I realize two people can view evidence differently, they can even both be right, that doesn’t mean that that’s the case here though. I simply opted to not have a back and forth and instead I gave recommend books on the topic, including one friendly to Christians.

I’m not a 6000 year Earth or whatever believer. It could be that young but it’s probably much older. Personally, I don’t particularly have much faith in what much of the scientific community often puts out there. I view science as a powerful but limited tool.

I’m curious if you or any other evolutionists have seen those Ken Ham segments on tv? He pokes wholes in evolution, but I refrain from jumping on his bandwagon until I see a counter-argument to his points. I’ve tried to watch some of the youtube responses, but they spend five-minutes bloviating rather than getting down into the point by point responses. As a result, I bailed. If the presentation is that poor, then I just don’t have the time or interest to wait around.

Do you know of any watchable or digestible responses to Ham’s (the last name of Ham is pretty funny) seemingly convincing points?

I stay away from anything on youtube that is a “response”… it’s just garbage. I swear the signal to noise ratio has plummeted on that site in the last few years… Some nice basic “intro to evolution” videos, while perhaps not addressing the exact arguments you’ve heard as I don’t even know who Ken Ham is, are here:

youtube.com/watch?v=vss1VKN2rf8
(qualiasoup’s whole video series is awesome)

youtube.com/watch?v=5MXTBGcyNuc

Just keep in mind that evolution is actually pretty complicated when you get more specific than “things change over time”, and no youtube video is going to really due it the justice it deserves. Pick up a book on the subject if you really care enough… most people don’t. It’s just not something that effects everyday life.

Another good book, this one on science in general, is this:

amazon.com/Short-History-Nearly-Everything/dp/0767908171

It’s in a nutshell about how we know what we know. Read the reviews there if you’re interested.

Jewish Oral Tradition is NOT the Telephone game. OT scripture was handed down by Oral Tradition, without error for hundreds of years before it was written down. It was an enormous responsibility to be responsible for memorizing scripture because of the respect that Jews had for the Sacred Scriptures.

No, we probably don’t have the original texts written by the original authors, however, even if we have copies, of copies, of copies…that doesn’t mean that the copies aren’t exactly like the originals~
