The big question, of course, is whether it works. Columbia University researchers conducted a study with 12,000 teenagers and found that a whopping 88 percent of those who made a chastity vow did have sex before marriage and were 20 percent less likely to use a condom than teens who hadn’t taken the pledge. hmmmmm. maybe that idea of chastity rings needs a closer scrutinizing.

Is that the only study or are there others to back it up? And does it make a difference that the kids were less likely to wear condomes? I guess one sin is better than two at the same time. :twocents:

I don’t think the chastity ring is what is making teenagers have sex before marriage. If the reason to scrutinize is because they don’t use condoms…that is another thread but has already been addressed in the previous post.

I think there has been a recent study that concluded that those who did vow abstinence had better rates than the average popluation. Has anyone heard?

Here is a thought to chew on; but could it not be that it is the over attention that these kiddos are giving to sexual relations not a contributing factor in their statistical inability to fulfill their ideals?

I am not talking about education, as they need to know what happens if they do act; but rather, is giving them something that causes them to focus on sex (even in a “negative” manner) every day the best way to help them abstain?

Just a half-penny for the conversation…
