Following a January 31 Mass celebrated by the Vatican’s Secretary of State, the leadership of the Pontifical Swiss Guard passed from Col. Daniel Anrig, commander since 2008, to his deputy …
The prelate then praised the work of Anrig, who had served out his five-year term and whose strict disciplinary standards were rumored not to be in accord with the Pope’s more informal style.
Pope Francis has been warning lately about “rumors”.
I don’t even know why rumors are even needed here. The former CO was in a 5 year position for 7 years. He should’ve been replaced years ago as a matter of course. In military units, like other things, people don’t get promoted unless others move on so leaving him there was holding up other promotions and slots as well.
