New Heaven and New Earth?

What does the Bible mean when it talks about a new heaven and a new earth. Is it the Jehovah Witnesses’s paradise where people build houses and live with the animals happily ever after? How does the Catholic Church interpret this verse?

The new heaven and the new earth occur after the general resurrection and after God takes away heaven and earth; it is then that God makes a new heaven and a new earth.

Attempts by some persons to interpret the new heaven or the new earth as merely a time of renewal or peace on earth before Christ’s return are not in accord with Scripture.

Hi Mikeledes,

After the Resurrection, we shall all have our bodies back. We will need a place to stay. That is the New Heaven and the New Earth.
