As of today, the green Gather hymnals are history, and our parish has replaced them with the black St. Michael’s more traditional (but not archaic) hymnals. And the organist pulled out all the stops, the cantor sang beautifully, and I nearly wept when the parish sang with, if not gusto (we are Catholics, you know
), definitely with sincerity and reverance. When the Agnus Dei was sung in Latin, those of us who “knew the words” really did make a statement of belief that I hoped inspired others who may never have heard it proclaimed in this manner. It was a grand day in Virginia.
