Because as Jesus is storming the gates of hell, Satan and Beelzebub are bickering about what to do. I found it entertaining. Oh, and the fact that Jesus literally tramples death was kinda humorous too.

Beautiful Ikon. is it rospis’ for wall of temple?? It reminds me of work rospisi I have seen in Vienna cathedal in Ausria by Arkhimandrit Zinon (Teodor) and in church where was murder priest Aleksandr Mjen’. . Have you studied with Arkhimandrit Zinon or his students? (

He’s the one who restored Danilov Monastery. He’s also the one who was “suspended” for celebrating the Divine Liturgy with a group of Roman Catholics from Italy.

He’s also the one who has started an ikon school in Italy.

I think his early work is stunning!

I like his later work as well, but not as much since he’s started this “Byzantine” period…
 
He is, I believe, perhaps the greatest living iconographer. His work and pictures of him painting are also included in Jim Forest’s book Praying with Icons.

Hi FDR!

You should his work in RUSSIAN ICONS TODAY and MODERN ORTHODOX ICONS. These books were published in Russian with chapters devoted just to his work.

I was also in Rome and got a couple of books in Italian on iconographer and his work was in them… STUNNING!!!

I have an OLD, OLD video tape of him doing restoration work on Danilov Monastery. It’s from an old NBC TV report on the Orthodox church… AWESOME!!!

Are celebrating Thursday or are you waitng til the 7th??
