I was just reading my New Jerusalem Bible and found a footnote that to me appears very unCatholic, which is surprising since it is generally the translation used outside of the US.
Ive recently come back to the Church and this is why the footnote confuses me…

Is this a bad translation/version?
Is recipient profession of faith required at Baptism?

Ephesians 5:25-26
Husbands should love their wives, just as Christ loved the Church and sacraficed himself for her to make her holy by washing her in cleansing water with a form of words* footnote.
I am very confusedThen the footnote reads
Baptism has no value unless it is accompanied by proclamation of the word, expressed through evangelisation by the minister and the recipients profession of faith, 1:13 cf. Mk16:15seq.; Ac2:38y;Rm6:4a; 1 P 1:23m.
