I’ve been at my new job a month. It’s good in many ways. However, I am in Angstville, because there is no structure to the training; there are no written resources or manuals to refer to; my supervisor by his own admission is crazy busy and not the best communicator; and as a result of dealing with a lot of panic over the foregoing (and trying to go faster than I am capable of right now), I’ve made silly mistakes. Most of them are careless rather than not understanding, but the bad part is that I didn’t get any of my work back until today, at which point he handed me a huge pile of errors. I wish I’d seen the things I was consistently screwing up, but I didn’t.

I’ve made myself a detailed checklist, decided to color-code my spreadsheets, and am trying to minimize distraction and anxiety attacks in order to think better.

So I feel stupid (even though I know I’m not), embarrassed, frustrated, and worried. I need to turn all this around right now. I’m still doing my 54-day novena to pass my probation, but any prayers would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Francesca

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with Thee.
Blessed art Thou among women,
and Blessed is the Fruit
of Thy Womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Dear Lord, please grant Francesca the gift of serenity as she struggles to learn her new job.

Praying that things work out for you on the job Francesca and that others notice your good qualities …

Thanks everyone. 🙂 Talking to my coworkers made me feel better – they don’t think I’m an idiot and were kind of appalled that our supervisor didn’t give me a heads-up along the way about things I was consistently misreading. Alas!

Unfortunately I’m at a seminar all day tomorrow so I won’t be in the office to see how my revised work has gone…get to be fidgety all weekend! But I may go to Mass tomorrow night if I get back to town in time, and have been praying for the gift of better concentration. I know I’m not stupid – I was always the kid who liked school and I’ve missed academics since I graduated from college 20 years ago, and I read constantly – but I can definitely be absentminded. I know that depression worsens that, as well.

Thank you all again for your prayers! It helps me to feel less alone. 🙂

Peace,
Francesca
