I started a new job today, and they gave me the hourly wage I asked for. I was excited to start this new job, however there were lots of pros and cons, as well as a previous employer who is willing to have me come back. When I was job searching, I contacted my old boss where I was making good money at and I liked the place I was working at, however my boss was very moody and a little crazy at times. Anyway, his new assistant who’s now in charge of running the office called me back and asked if I could come in Tuesday to work for the day because they have clients coming in and they want to see how I will do to make their decision to let me come back. My dilemma is, from knowing how my old boss is I have a strong feeling he will let me come back to work for him. my new job now the boss is so great and kind to me, but today the office manager and whoever else supposed to be train me barely trained or taught me anything the whole day. They had me do some work, but a lot was organizing. Also, maybe it shouldn’t matter, but the office was such a mess and really dirty and just not too pleasant of work environment. I felt so dirty by the end of the work day, and also they have a unisex bathroom because there’s not s lot of us in the office, but I still find it gross. One of the lady’s told me they are planning to move offices but i don’t know when and I didn’t ask.

What would any of you do? My old job pays a little more, also pays for an expensive gym membership after 90 days along with benefits. please I need some advice! Thank you!

I’m 52 years old. I nice boss outweighs a moody one every time. 🤷

Sounds like the reasons you left are still there.

The other part is if they know you but still want you to come in to “see how you do”, doesn’t sound like it is necessarily a good fit. Generally if you’ve worked someplace for a while and they want to bring you back, you are a known quantity.

Good luck!

Your old job sounds like a toxic relationship. Run!

I think you can set an example in your new job without being overly pushy about it. Clean up, organize and make yourself very productive in your new job. Most new jobs do not start at the “top.” Stay where you are and make you job "love’ You. Peace.

OP, what kind of old job asks you to come back to test you just to see whether you’ll do fine or not?

You worked there. They supposedly know you. I wouldn’t go back.

I know of a previous job I held that I could call anytime and they will likely let me come back to it without any interview nor testing. They KNOW me and appreciated my work.
