Douglas Gropp, Ph.D., is an elder at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Bethesda, Maryland, and a teacher in the Department of Semitic and Egyptian Languages and Literature at the Catholic University of America. His undergraduate studies were taken at Duke University, and theological studies were taken at Westminster Theological Seminary. Doug pursued doctoral studies at Harvard University in Old Testament and Northwest Semitics where he became a member of the international team of editors for the Dead Sea Scrolls. He is author of Volume 28 of the official published series of the Dead Sea Scrolls by Oxford University Press.

Regardless of Mr. Gropp’s denominational background, I think the NLT Catholic edition is a very good read.

…and Gropp did a pretty good job. He’s obviously very well qualified.

Gee what a protestant view point on such an important subject. Holy Scripture itself. No Catholic scholar signed on for this translation.
No catholic bishop or Catholic Bibilical Society gives this Bible catholic approval. Several readers have pointed out the doctrinal and translational errors contained in the translation yet you ignore all this since it is an easy read. Considering there are several apporved catholic transaltion of holy writ that is easy to understand yet you continue to insist on reading a skewed translation in favor of evangelical tradition instead of the catholic tradition you supposedly belong to.
I think you should reconsider why you are catholic and if you being truly catholic in your Biblical studies. The imprimatur is a gift of the church that gives us guidance on what is catholic and what is not. It should not be restricitve in a catholic worldview. Clearly you still see these things in a protestant viewpoint of what is accepted scripture. You are in oppen dissent of the church in your defiance of reading unapproved scripture translations.
Much like Luther favoring his own heretical translation of the Bible your rejoice in the heresy of your favorite Bible translation. Please reconsider your stance and open acceptance of heresy.
