New Living Translation

I was given a New Living Translation study bible as a gift. Is this a good translation to keep for reference purposes to compare/contrast with my Catholic Bibles?

It’s a good *paraphrase *of the Bible, but I would recommend reading it along side a good translation of the Bible.

I’ll admit that I have little experience with the NLT, but here’s my take on ‘dynamic equivalence’ versions.

As Ron pointed out, one main disadvantage of such translations is that in rendering the text in a freer way, personal interpretations and biases often creep into the text. So, I’d advise you to get a more literal translation or at best, an interlinear and use it alongside the translation.

personally I think the NLT stinks.I dislike most paraphrased bibles but i think this is the worst of the lot.If you want to read it for enjoyment -fine.But for serious read or study get a RSVCE.
