The year A,B,C Gospel Canticle antiphons for Sundays will need to be translated (unless they simply extract those from the African edition).I seem to remember hearing something like 3-5 years. We have discussed this in several threads in the last year or so.
Basically, the “heavy lifting” is already done.
What may require more translating or reworking to satisfy the norms of Liturgiam Authenticam:
- The Revised Grail Psalter is already done.
- The collects for most of the Proper of Saints and Proper of Seasons is complete with the new English mass translation.
- The biblical and non-biblical readings in the Office of Readings and the rest of the Office will probably not change.
As you can see, the remaining work to be done, while still substantial, is less than one might have thought.
- The basic dialogues, etc. of the Ordinary.
- The closing prayers for the 4 week Psalter (outside of special seasons)
- The intercessions
- Potentially, the Benedictus, Magnificat, Nunc Dimittus, and Te Deum
- Psalm-prayers
- Responsories
Hopefully we will also get better hymns. I personally use the latin hymns in Liber Hymnarius about 95% of the time.
I’m hoping the Psalm-prayers go altogether (they’re not in the Latin).
I would like to see Psalm 95 from the Grail version, the Gospel Canticles and especially the Te Deum retranslated.
I also hope for explicit approval for both versions of the Gloria Patri, but if I have a choice of only one, I would prefer the traditional ending.
I would also prefer vernacular translations of the actual Latin hymns and the absolute banishment of Sion Sing and all other Lucien Deiss songs.
