Sorry that I had to be away and could not answer certain questions by some .
I had told one member that I had a lengthy discourse on proving Catholicism, but it is 45 pages on a word processor. It is impossible to use the e-mail for this since the pages all run together for a very long time. I have used PDF once, but the one party that receive it that way had trouble looking at each page of the PDF file, and frankly it is not the way to read any type of scholarly work. That is best in printed form, such as a book or from printed pages from a word processor. I have offered to send anybody a copy of this, disregarding the mailing cost of about $2.50, since that is a very small sacrifice for following Jesus’ command to “teach” His message to he world.
If any one e-mails me at
wilbur006@dishmail.net requesting a copy I will gladly send it to you. If you are up to a PDF file I will also do that, but you would have to print out 45 pages to properly digest my thesis.
I do have a significant section in my discourse explaining what some of the historical documents are that prove the faith and dogma of the Church. To be a true Christian one must believe in the gospel of Jesus, and much of it demands that we become members of His Church, and to eat of His Body and Drink of His Blood to have “life in us”. This is all explained in my discourse to prove it is not merely a metaphor as Protestant and Evangelicals believe. Additionally the dogma of Infallibility and Primacy of Peter, as the first Pope is all documented from the gospels and from historical evidence. For a starter, one only has to read the following sections of the gospels to learn the essence of “inflallibility”: Matt 16:13-19. Non Catholics refuse to believe and understand what Jesus meant by the words “upon this rock” when addressing Simon. I have a whole section proving without any doubt that Jesus was referred only to Simon, and to him did he give the Keys to the Kingdom of heaven and say to him that “whatsoever thou shall bind upon earth, it shall be bound also in heaven; and whatsoever thou shall loose upon earth, it shall be loosed also in heaven”(Douay-Rheims Bible).
In this regards, there is ample historical evidence that not only Peter had these “Keys to the Kingdom”, but all successor bishops who were elected as Popes throughout the history of the Church.
Here is a sample of external evidence that Peter had special powers:
- Next to Jesus, Peter is mentioned more than any ot her Aposele in Scripture (152 times).
- Peter stood up on behalf of he apostles(Mt. 19:27, Act 1:15, 2:14.)
- Peter stood up at the birth of the Church at the Pentecost to lead them (Acts 2:14).
- The disciples were referred to as Peter and the Apostles (Acts 2:37, 5:29).
- Peter was given the authority to forgive sins before the rest of the apostles( (Mt. 16-18).
- Pete was always named first when the ajpostles were listed (Mt. 10:1-4; Mk 3:16-19, Luke 6:14-16, Acts 1:13); and sometimes it was said “Peter and those who were with him” (Lk 9:32).
- In the Acts of the Apostles Peter always appears in the position of primacy:
a. He takes charge of the election of St. Matthias to fill the vacancy caused by the suicide of Judas (1:15-22).
b. He receives into the Church the first converts from the Jews and heathens (2:14-41; 10-5).
- Tertullian in 220 AD said, “Was anything h id from Peter, who was called the Rock, whereon the Church was build; who obtained the keys of the Kingdom of Heaven, and the power of loosing and binding in heaven and on earth?” (from Tertlullian, De Praaescript Haeret).
- St. Hippolytus in 225 AD wrote, “Peter, the Rock of the Church…” and also said, “Peter, the Rock of the Faith, whom Christ our Lord called blessed, the teacher of the Church, the first disciple, he who ha s the Keys of the Kingdom”.
Now I could list at least 25 additional early Church Bishops (now Saints) who wrote many referenced about Peter being the original Head and Foundation of the Church Christ found; though I really do not think it is necessary for this discussion.
In conclusion, I will probably be unavailable for a few days to respond, but I would be glad to further provide scripture and historical evidence to Prove the Catholic Church is the only church founded by Jesus. I would recommend that all catholics, but primarily non-catholics to read the following scriptures to understand how Jesus gave us His body to eat: (Jn 6:25-35; 6:47-52; 6:61-67; Luke 22:19-20, Matt 26:28)/
.
God bless all who sincerely seek the truth.
