Any thoughts on using this: CTS (Catholic Truth Society) New Daily Missal Peoples Version?
I am a Roman Catholic in USA.
Also should I wait for new Missal coming out in U. S. version?
Thank you all in advance for any (name removed by moderator)ut!

I don’t know about that particular one, but if it’s approved by the USCCB, it’s fine. If not, avoid it.

A quick glance around shows the Catholic Truth Society has been doing pamphlets and literature since 1868, and their publications are carried by solid Catholic booksellers.

The last time the missals were updated were when we did the translation changes a few years ago— “And also with you” turned into “And with your spirit”; “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you” turned into “Lord, I am not worthy that you should enter under my roof”; and some other bits.

The only translation thing on my radar is the current discussion over the Lord’s prayer— “and lead us not into temptation” being re-translated into “do not let us fall into temptation”. But I don’t know if that’s merely something that’s happening in other countries, like Italy or France, but isn’t being finalized in English. So I’d check into that, but that’s the only thing I can think of waiting for in a “new Missal”.

It uses a different Bible translation and a different calendar than we use in the US. Why would you want to use it instead of a US missal?

Catholic Truth Society is great. But you can’t use their missal in the United States because the US uses a different Bible Translation than England does.

Also, the US has different local feast days than England too.

If an American buys that missal, it won’t match what they are hearing in Mass in the United States.

Edit: almost every English speaking nation has its own missal because even if they use the same translation as another country, they all have their own local feasts/memorials.

Cool beans; I hadn’t read @TheLittleLady 's post that they used a different translation for other English-speaking countries when I was writing my post. 🙂 I had thought the bit about “new Missal coming out in US version” was a reference to another shift in Mass translation, not a whole new edition that doesn’t currently exist. 🙂 I’ve got my Daughters of St Paul version, and am very pleased with it! 🙂

  1. there is no “new Missal” coming. CTS is simply publishing one. The “new English translation of the mass” is the one from 2011
  2. that Missal will not match the readings in the United States because they use a different Bible translation and have different local feasts and memorials.
For people who live in the US, they need to buy a Missal from an American Catholic publisher.

Here are the three most popular missals for the US: What is a Catholic Missal and How to Choose One | The Catholic Company®

My best recommendation is the Daily Roman Missal from MTF. It will have all the propers and readings from every day of the year in one volume. It works great.

There is no new English missal translation coming that I know of, so any 2011 Missal that uses the US readings will work.

I’ll add a third vote for the Midwest Theological Forum Daily Missal (MTF) if it’s still available - the last time I was on their site, it wasn’t listed.

There is no new English translation coming to the US or elsewhere that I’m aware of. The change in the Lord’s Prayer, etc currently making news is in the Italian-only.

I am a Roman Catholic in USA.
This is a version of the third typical edition of the Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite approved for use by the Holy See in England and Wales. The Catholic Truth Society is the publisher the English and Welsh bishops chose to publish the English translation of the third typical edition in 2011. It would not be valid for use in the USA.
Also should I wait for new Missal coming out in U. S. version?
This has already happened. The USA got its English translation of the third typical edition on the First Sunday of Advent 2011 as we did here in England.

To the best of my knowledge the Holy See has not issued a fourth typical edition. Therefore, there is no missal awaiting to come out in a US version.

When minor changes are made, I sometimes think it is a ploy to be able to sell new missals.
Kind of like pro sports teams who change their jerseys or ball caps every couple of years to enable to team to sell new jerseys and caps.
😀😇🙏

Somehow, I’m immediately suspicious of any group that calls themselves a “truth society,” regardless of the adjective they put in front of it. Just a gut reaction.

I own one of these and it’s a great missal for the ordinary form.

The only problem I have with the Missal from MTF is that it is huge. There is no way to comfortably store it.
And yes, I realized that it was huge when it was purchased. I just didn’t realize how difficult it would be find a place for it.

CTS - Catholic Truth Society - Publishers to the Holy See. Yeah, avoid them! The translation of the Scriptures Is approved for use in the UK.:roll_eyes::roll_eyes:
(A quick internet search is a fantastic thing.)

Official publishers to the Holy See in the UK - they publish the Missals for the OF and Ordinariate. Do some research before dismissing.
