Forgive me if this in the wrong section…

My husband and I bought our first Missals. I got a new Angelus press 1962 Daily Missal that has 5 ribbons, red, purple, white, green and black.

My husbands Missal is a Baronius press and has 6 ribbons, red, purple, white, green, black and gold.

Where do we place the ribbons and how do we use them? And why does his have the gold ribbon and mine doesn’t?

Yes, and welcome to the forums as well. I always admire the enthusiasm of those coming into the Church. It has inspired me on many days.

Mary.

Thank you so much! I’ve learned a lot already but there is still so much! I wonder if I will ever learn it all!

I got scolded today. My husband and I went to the church to pick up some rosaries and other things that were blessed. We were standing in the narthex looking for the church registration forms and had not even entered the sanctuary yet to retrieve the items when some lady whom I had never even seen before came in from the sanctuary and looked at me and said :we maintain a dress code! Do you need something?" She was rather snarky about it. I was wearing a nice pair of shorts and a nice top that happened to be sleeveless (not a tank top though I did have one on under my blouse). I did not think my attire was out of sorts. It wasn’t dressy, but it was by no means immoral. My shorts are knee length and my blouse doesn’t show anything as it buttons up to a collar. Did I do something wrong?

*Actually, the ribbons are markers for your convenience so you can place them anywhere you like that is most helpful to you.

If you are attending a traditional church, meaning a church that operates only with the old Latin Mass, then the dress code is usually fairly strict. If you hadn’t gone into the church proper, but just the entrance, I think it was fine and the person should not have approached you. If you were going to Mass, even on a weekday in a traditional church that only has the old Latin Mass, you would be expected to adhere to the old time dress code, too, which would be dresses or skirts for women. Shorts for women, even knee length, would be a no no.

According to the snark, you did. Then you have to decide if snarks and politically correct people (which is not entirely within the liberal element) and fashion police are to be honored and obeyed, or smiled at and dismissed.

You were in church, which is better than about 70 to 80% of those who have been baptized, but choose not to wear out the cement walkway leading to the front door. That apparently did not satisfy her.

There is an old saying: “When in Rome, do what the Romans do”, which has a lot of truth to it; but then one must be in Rome at least a bit of time to learn what it is they do.

They are executing 5 year old Christian children in parts of Syria and Iraq. Put it into perspective, and roll on.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. At times, it can be a bit lively. I suspect you were taken aback by the comment; I tend to deal with it head on, with and answer something like “Oh, I didn’t know you were part of the sartorial police; may I see your badge number?” Some may criticize me, but I flat don’t put up with snarks who do more to push people away from the Church than they do to gather people in. I seriously cannot see Christ making such a comment as she did, and I don’t back down in the least. I am sorry you were subjected to such rude political correctness. The story of the Pharisee and the tax collector comes to mind. That, and the comment from Thumper’s mother…

I wanted to say something to her, but thought it would be better to keep my trap shut. She was wearing mens clothes and had no veil on (she came out from the sanctuary). Next time, if someone confronts me like that, I’ll tell em to mind their own ps&qs!

Thank you for the warm welcome!
