New movie: "Son of God"

Our diocese newspaper is promoting it. The Sean Hannity Show last night interviewed the producers along with a Catholic priest, a Protestant minister and other grass root advocates, editors, reporters etc. They all gave positive recommendations. The movie was shot along with the mini Bible series but is not a condensed version of the miniseries. Many local churches have bought group tickets that our local theaters have been sold out before the first show.

I think a movie like this has good evangelization effect. The devil would do anything to stop people from being exposed to the Gospel and the image of Jesus. You may not like how certain plots were approached, but please do not prevent others to be evangelized.

👍 This movie gets people talking about Jesus and Christianity again (instead of all these vampire movies and TV shows). I pray that Catholics and other Christians who have fallen away from going to church will be re-inspired and become active again.🙂 Our Archbishop and Cardinal Wuerl have recommended it, and it is about Jesus!
 
I saw The Son of God trailer on EWTN TV. Doesn’t that mean it’s approved by the Catholic Church?

EWTN is not a facet of the Church. Their approval does not equal hierarchical approval.
 
I thought it was a Catholic channel. Don’t they have Catholic Mass? Where can I find Catholic channel please? I don’t want to get confused.

EWTN is a Catholic channel, and definitely the most wonderful one out there. But we shouldn’t confuse it with the Church herself.
 
I never saw the Bible series. But I loved The Passion of The Christ. Do you think I can find the Bible series at the public library? If no, then where can I get it from?

The public library here carries it so yours might also. You may want to call them and check.
 
I didn’t read the whole thing, just sort of skimmed through it until I got to the part where she referred to praying the rosary as necromancy. I stopped skimming there.

I actually signed on to CA this morning to see if anyone was talking about this movie. I am contemplating taking my son to see it,although he is not 13 and we don’t allow him to see PG-13 movies. I may make an exception here.
 
Well, my take is threefold:
  1. The enemy wouldn’t want us to see a beautiful film about Jesus, either.
  2. The series on tv wasn’t new agey, but if the film is, the next tv series planned will fail because Christians will boycott it. Why would the producers risk that?
  3. The blogger makes a weak case, and quotes a person who makes a VERY weak case that shows little knowledge of Scripture. If you look around more on the website, the blogger is no fan of Catholicism or some other Christian religions. If this person saw the tv series but has no examples of new agism in the portrayal of the “SON OF GOD” to report, this is probably fear mongering for the sake of driving traffic to their site.
And if more people click that link, we have helped drive that traffic.

I agree - stick with Cardinal Wuerl’s recommendation. I trust him more than a no-name mad-at-religion fear-monger.
 
Our pastor mentioned this movie in his homily yesterday morning, and encouraged us to see it. He emphasized the importance of keeping the Christian message relevant in this culture of ours. He had not seen it yet, but from what he had heard from those who had, the overall fidelity to the Gospel message in this movie is greater than whatever objections there may be.
