I am extreme lover of movies and a big fan of the director Peter Jackson, especially the movie The Lovely Bones. I watched his Middle Earth - J.R.R Tolkien based movies and found them to be pretty good as well. It seems the third installment to The Hobbit is coming out in December, anyone else excited for this?

I am, but I still think PJ should have just stuck with the two movies idea they had at first. I still can’t fathom why they had to make it a trilogy like LotR. 🤷

(As you can see, I’m really divided about the live-action films.)

I think I can fathom why they they thought they had to make it a trilogy. Because three $$$ is better than two $$.

And yes, I am looking forward to this film.

That’s the ultimate reason, yes. 😛

I am excited about it. Yes, it was completely and unnecessarily extravagant for them to turn a thin children’s book into three long movies. But when it comes to Middle-Earth, I’m okay with some extravagance. 😛

I don’t think the Hobbit movies have been as good as the LotR trilogy. And I do understand and appreciate the criticisms. But I just love seeing the world come alive on screen. It’s very hard for me not to love it.

Saw the first to films on DVD. Wasn’t that impressed. So I will wait to watch The Hobbit: There And Back Again.

As a great Lover of Tolkien’s works I despise, detest, and revile all of Peter Jackson’s blasphemous and despicable butchery of them.

I will not be seeing this movie.

I’ll see it but I won’t say I’m excited to. I’m still really miffed that he made a trilogy out of it. Pure greed. But I’ve seen the first two so I’ll see the last one.

Tell us how you *really *feel! 😛

I do understand feeling this way. Jackson made plenty of artistic decisions that I disagree with. But I still find them to be a lot of fun to watch.

I do sometimes wonder about whether we might see someone redo the movies in 20 or 30 years from now. Maybe if that happens, they will come out more to your liking. :o

I love all the Middle Earth movies and can’t wait to see the last Hobbit movie!

I don’t know if it’s greed or if it is just that Jackson cannot seem to help himself when it comes to overindulgence. “Over the top” is just what he does.

I was excited about the first one because it was the first one. I was excited about the second one because I wanted to see Mirkwood. I’m excited about the last one because of Smaug and the Battle of Five Armies.

Of course, in true Jackson fashion, I imagine he’ll take the half a page from the book wherein Bilbo basically misses the whole battle and turn it into an hour long action sequence. 😛 But I still look forward to that. 😃

It’s just so frustrating, since Peter Jackson’s King Kong was almost camera shot for camera shot exactly like the original. So clearly he’s capable of being faithful.

That damns the alterations to the Tolkien movies as completely intentional, and completely avoidable.

If that’s true then how come I keep getting the impression that King Kong was regarded as a horrible movie?

I really wish I could like Peter Jackson’s movies that are loosely ‘based’ on Tolkien’s works. Some of the actors are really talented. The film locations are beautiful.

But as somebody who’s been reading the books since age 8 --which makes it 50 years now–I just can’t enjoy the movies. The decisions about storyline changes --and extreme character changes (cough, Faramir, cough; choke, Eowyn, choke) ruin it for me.

But that’s just me. Other people enjoy them, find them to enhance the books, find ways to justify the changes that explain them well --that’s great. So I hope they enjoy this one.

I’ll just stick to the books.

🙂

I think the character changes bug me the most. He seems to not want some of the more peripheral characters to also be good. No one wants to help the Fellowship right off the bat: Faramir, Theoden, the Ents. They all drag their feet about doing the right thing.

I mean, I get why Jackson probably chose to do that. He probably wanted to ramp up the drama and make things seem even more bleak for the central characters. That decision does make a certain amount of sense for a film. But It still bugs me.

Nonetheless, I still enjoy the movies. I never saw a movie in the theaters more than once until Lord of the Rings. 🙂

I read “The Hobbit” and loved it, Tolkien is a literary genius when it comes to writing. However Peter Jackson shouldn’t have touched “The Hobbit”. The movies are nothing like the book and have way too much easy to tell CGI effects in it. The LOTR movies were great and weren’t three movies for one book.

😃

You know what I think? I have this vague feeling that if PJ gets his hands on Farmer Giles of Ham or Smith of Wooton Major he’d make at least two movies out of each of 'em. 😛

Just wait. In ten years, Jackson will have a five-film adaptation of the Silmarillion. 😛

(And I would go to see each one of them. :o 😊)

What? Jackson made plenty of embellishments in his adaptation of “King Kong”. It was almost TWICE AS LONG as the original.
