I am sorry you are going through this, and you have my prayers.

Sina is the only one who mentioned the vicodin – and I have some experience with years of vicodin treatment for my back, and then even stronger pain meds. I just want to mention MY experience with it (read not give medical advice) and offer you a glimmer of hope, and of options.

One – chronic pain drains the seratonin in your brain causing mood swings. If you are not taking a seratonin inhibitor with your pain meds, you should talk to your Dr. about possibly starting up. I’ll tell you what, it really does help with the pain and with the pain-resulting mood swings.

Two – Vicodin has very short half life, resulting in the return of pain quite quickly throughout the day. Which I am sure you know. It’s also easily acclimated to, requiring more. Vicious cycle, again, which I am sure you know.

Three – there are other, better treatments for herniated disks, including surgery, than pain meds. I highly suggest looking into them.

Four – I beg you not step up the drug ladder into longer half-life drugs like morphine or methadone.

For years I was on pain medication, and coming off was hell. With the support of my hubby I made it through – and cold turkey at that. I wasn’t even addicted (mentally) but I was physically dependent on them. I had many doctor’s tell me I would be on them for life. Thankfully that isn’t the case! It was one of the most difficult trials of my life – but I stand witness before you to say – since coming off the pain meds my pain has been far less severe. I walked around a 6 or 7 medicated, now I am typically at a 2. It’s amazing, really. I owe a lot to God and having faith that He would help me through – and He has. I also have faith in our miraculous bodies. I also learned something big about pain in all of this – it’s relevant to those who suffer it. Each of us are different, feel pain differently, deal with it differently, succumb to it – or ignore it, even just muddle through. Simply not complaining about pain makes it easier to deal with and/or ignore. It really does come down to choice.

Oh and not only am I in less pain – my attitude is really much, much better.

I think if you take the one factor out that is really controlling some of your emotions you can fair more better as the country stuck between two warring nations. Deal with your very real issues going on in your body and spirit – then you’ll clearly be able to decipher how best to handle wife and daughter.

As for the ladies: for now you can just simply tell them each you love them, you hope one day it’ll workout between them – but you will not choose. You can even tell them : “one of you wants me to rip out my heart and walk around living and loving, the other wants me to cut off my head and continue as normal. I can’t live without my heart or my head, and tis the same with the two of you. I won’t choose and I’ll love you both regardless. Period.”

Prayers with you!
