New "My Confessor" app

It would be great if this could be advertisiled on EWTN or reviewed on some Catholic YouTube channels so that the word would spread around to priests.

Although a phone call to your local rectory will get you the same info…

But is this app meant to make the Sacrament of Reconciliation digital?
Its not to make a Confession digitally. It is simply to find a priest that you can physically go to.
Confession is not permitted and would not be valid if done any way apart from physically going to Confession and confessing to the priest personally face to face or through the screen.

Thsi app is for determining if a priest in your area is availble to hear your confession.

edit…thistle’s comment previous to mine is a more detailed answer.

Given that half the time people don’t answer the phone or are rushed or impatient with those who call, and that many people text or use apps for stuff we used to use a phone for, I think there’s a place for this app.

Thing is, your local Diocese offers a website with parish details. Your local parish may have a website, a facebook page, etc. When people try to set up their own app, how do they get notified when Fr Joe has the flu and won’t be hearing confessions this week? Or when the schedule changes for the eleventy million reasons schedules change at a parish every week? Heck, often the parish office does not even know!

I often hear people recommed Mass Times website, I just checked it - they are a year behind on our mass schedule (meaning, our regular schedule changed a year ago and the old schedule is still there). There are also special changes, cancellations for this weekend, of course they are not listed.

It is always best to contact the parish and remember, not every parish has a staff to keep a website updated. Our Diocese no longer keeps mass times on the parish directories because keeping up with every parish and their changes is simply too much.

Well, from the sound of this app, Fr. Joe simply wouldn’t log in and mark himself as available.

The priest signs up for the app, so any priest who would do that would presumably update himself. With respect to Masstimes, when I find a church with a permanent schedule change, I update the app myself for that church - you do not have to be a staffer and I think many staff are completely unaware the app exists.

Yes, I think that was the idea. I’m sure there are priests who like gadgets or who are young or hip enough to be into apps.
It obviously won’t replace the church confession schedule on the Web or in the bulletin any time soon.

I rather like the idea.

Having spent a lot of time in my life on shiftwork, confession could be rather difficult - most especially if you have a job that has changing hours week to week. Being able to check who’s free on your day off would be great.
