Hi there. Since the death of his Holiness, Pope John Paul, I have been led to seek more and more about the Catholic faith. However, I am proceeding cautiously as I come from a Protestant background.

I’ve always known the Lord, his Son, and felt the Holy Spirit in my life, but I’ve also been lead to St Dymphna. I now wear a 3rd Degree relic medal of St. Dymphna because I cope with some stuff I’d rather not discuss here.

How does one properly care for a such a relic? I’ve not been able to find out.

Thank you and God Bless!

A 3rd degree relic is something that has come in contact with a 1st degree relic (a part of a saints body). I imagine you would care for it as you would a blessed object.

If you were wearing a family heirloom, belonging to, say, a beloved deceased grandma, how would you treat it? You would be careful it was not lost, or stolen, you would treat it with care and respect. I think the same thing for your relic.

If for some reason it was ruined, or you could not keep it, take it to your local Catholic Church, they would know what to do with it. (Usually, blessed items are buried, I don’t know how a ruined relic is disposed of)

Welcome. 🙂

Thank you so much for your answer!

It makes me feel better as that is how I treat my medal, with respect and care, exactly like I would treat an heirloom.

Thank you again for your honest, caring answer. I think I’ll stick around and learn more here for a while.

In His name,

Seeker 👍
