Camel getting it’s nose under the tent. As I read the machinations at the Synod, it reminds me very much of the Episcopal Church 30-40 years ago.

I am reading the article only here.
There’s no problem with anything written in the article.
If one reads the words carefully, the Archbishop is calling for a “new pastoral approach” but not a change in doctrine.
I have every confidence that he understands the doctrine (I have little confidence that the media understands it), and based on what is in that article, I see nothing that calls such doctrine into question.
I would like readers here to read this paragraph very carefully please:
The archbishop expressed his hope that “the teaching of the Church in these areas will remain intact” and that a genuinely new pastoral approach with a whole new language, particularly for those who no longer understand the distinction of “hate the sin, love the sinner,” is needed. The shifts in today’s culture, he said, create major problems in communication.
Now, go back and read it again.
Now, one more time, read the paragraph and think very hard on what was said there.
I find nothing about that which even remotely threatens Catholic doctrine, and indeed everything about it that upholds Catholic doctrine.

Does anyone really need more pastoral approaches? What is the goal of extending the pastoral approach…? Are we trying to match something?
