The “Catholic Communion of Churches” is the umbrella term, more in line with the New Code of Canon Law for both the Eastern and Latin Churches, to use instead of “Roman Catholic Church” for all the autonomous Churches or sui iuris ritual Churches united to the See of Peter in Vatican City, Italy.
The term used by the Eastern Code of Canons itself when referring to a Church in full Eucharistic communion with Rome is “Church sui iuris”.

Another term that is used amongst Eastern Catholics is “particular ritual Church”. This was the term used by both my bishop and the Latin Archbishop the last time I was requested to assist with a change of particular ritual Church from the Latin to the UGCC. It is interesting that the Latin Archbishop referred to himself as “Latin Ordinary” during these proceedings and did not use the term “Roman Catholic”.

What would you do then if you were asked to assist a person wishing to transfer from the Byzantine Catholic Church to the Latin Church? What would the full procedure be in your view and how long would it take?
