Has anyone in the United States actually seen an actual copy of the daily Roman missal (the revised one that’s supposed to be used in a few weeks?) I’ve seen plenty of pictures on websites, but the three Catholic bookstores around here don’t have any in stock yet. I’d like to actually see the physical book before I buy it.

unless you know someone who know’s someone who knows a guy that met a girl i don’t think you will be able to get one until they come out.

The one by Midwest Theological Forum is out. It says not available until Nov 21, but I got my order yesterday. What do you want to know?

But that doesn’t really help, since I very likely don’t live where you do …

Likewise, I received mine from MTF just yesterday–it’s awesome! I personally really enjoy MTF publications…the Missal includes a large selection from the Handbook of Prayers, which is probably the best prayerbook out after the breviary. Includes all the texts of the Mass, all of the readings for every day of every year, other rituals (weddings, funerals), instruction on how to be a better Catholic, and pretty much any prayer you could possibly want, in both English and Latin (the Mass texts are also all in English and Latin, although the readings are only in English).

The MTF version comes in Burgundy or Black, and hardcover, leather-bound, or vinyl. Nice little elements of artwork within (nothing cheesy, but very beautiful and sacred). Six ribbons as bookmarkers, attached directly to the binding.

Good luck!

Once it is available most Catholic bookstores will have it in stock. Once they have it, you should be able to look at it.

I run a Catholic bookstore and I know that I will have a number of sales when my books come in.

Darn, I wish I could find one like that for Canada, but no publisher I know is doing one. We’re limited to the disposable annual ones like the St. Joseph Sunday Missal or the Novalis Sunday Missal. I remember that before Vat. II the thing I wanted most was a black leather zipped up missal like the adults had.

I saw a paperback version from Pauline here in NY, but I’m waiting out for a hardcover or faux lether bound one.

I was just reading that Canada has just published their Missals. There should be ones available soon, I would suppose. If worse comes to worse, you could just get a chapel edition 🙂

Baronus Press’ altar missal is available in a personal size (for $119). The local bishop sent one to each of his clerics, including my dad. Doesn’t include the lections, but does include everything else, including the outlines of the chant melodies and their uses, as well as some fully notated examplars.

I know the Missals for the church are shipped, but AFAIK, there is no company publishing a personal missal. The chapel edition is waaayyy too big to be used by an individual in the pews.

That sounds like it might be the chapel edition and not a personal missal. I think the OP is looking for a small volume that can be easily carried around. We bought a number of chapel editions for about that price for our priests.

It’s 6" x9" x3" or so.

That looks like the right size for a personal missal but the price seems way way too high. I don’t think the average person could pay that or would pay that. I know I wouldn’t. I paid that for my chapel edition that I will use at work and it is bigger.

It’s the personal size intended for clergy. It’s the same as the 8x12 chapel edition, only reduced in print size.

I mentioned in smart alec mode…

Well, I don’t know about that…seems to be personal preference. … One might enjoy to use the altar edition to follow along from the pew, too … 😉 haha

I am patiently awaiting my new Missal from Midwest Theological. I hope to be as impressed as others have been.

It’s quite doable. (Aside from not having the readings.)
