According to CBN News, Dr.Ronnie Floyd is the new president for the southern baptist executive committee(EC) is the electron went right. How come he serve the people in spite of his previous record?

Skimming over his Wikipedia page, it seems he was president of the SBC in the past. Did he do something in that time that turned off the SBC?

There’s also this little bit:
In June 2016 the subject was tapped by then-candidate Donald Trump to serve on an advisory board of evangelicals some of whom, like Floyd, had not endorsed him.
Ignoring that they called him “the subject”, this occurred around the time of him being succeeded by Steve Gaines. Maybe his work with Trump at the time is what OP is referring to?

It seems this is a different post from the SBC president, which is more of a part time job they give to successful senior pastors to provide more of a visionary/pastoral leadership. This “president of the SBC executive committee” appears to be more of a full time CEO type position.

The current SBC president is J.D. Greear, who pastors a 10,000 member church in Durham, NC. He was elected in June 2018, so presumably he could possibly stay SBC president until June 2020.

Ronnie Floyd resigned as pastor of his church to take the Executive Committee job full time.

So more of a Queen vs Prime Minister deal?
Yeah, you can look at it that way. I mean the SBC president is the top officer of the Convention, but he’s not managing the day to day agencies. And the SBC does have a lot of missionary agencies and programs to run. They don’t have any control over the individual churches, but they do manage a lot of denominational programs.

The executive committee acts for the convention in between annual meetings, so the committee president will have more of a role coordinating and managing the actual denominational machinery and staff.
