New respect life group

Hi all

A small group at my church has decided to start a respect life group. We have some ideas of things that we might do, but I’d like to hear some advice from anyone who is already engaged in something like this.

We’re tackling abortion, euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, human cloning, and the death penalty. We’re also thinking that at some point we’d like to branch out a little (especially toward the youth) and do something with purity/Theology of the Body.

Anyway, if you have some advice, or ideas, I’d love to hear them. Thanks!
 
Start small and build awareness. If your group is small, start by tackling projects that won’t wear you out.

Here are some ideas of easy things to do:

**Baby Shower For Baby Jesus **at either Christmas or Epiphany-- have parishioners bring baby items and place them on the altar or designated spot during the Offertory or before/after Mass. Donate all the items and $ collected to a local Crisis Pregnancy Center or Catholic Charities.

Life Chain in October-- Get info from your local state pro-life groups on when/where Life Chain will be held in your area (first week of October) and then sign up a group to participate.

Respect Life Month-- October is officially Respect Life Month in the Catholic Church. Work with your diocesan Respect Life committee to plan events in your parish-- such as carrying a banner during the procession, having the homily themed towards Life topics, putting an insert in the bulletin (I get mine from www.hh76.com) and whatever the diocese is doing for that month.

Bulltetin announcements-- create awareness with small paragraphs in the bulletin with quotes from the Church, Popes, and Saints (like Mother Teresa) on these issues.

Pamphlets – get pamphlets from www.omsoul.com, www.hh76.com, and Priests For Life and put them in your church (with Father’s permission and check diocesan policy first).

Engage the KCs if you have a local group. Get their help in coordinating, co-sponsoring, and attending your events.

Reach out to pro-life groups already in your diocese (Catholic and non-Catholic) for training, ideas, and support.

Engage your parish council and other ministries/groups in your parish for funding and for support on joint projects.

You can do fundraisers like selling carnations or roses on Monther’s Day and then use the funds to do projects.

Raise money towards a memorial to the unborn and place it on your church property.

Thanks. And I’m with you on the gory pictures. I understand why people use them, they feel that the end justifies the means. But anytime I’m out at a clinic praying, I always separate myself from those that do. Somehow it seems disrespectful to those babies to have their remains on disply like that.
