Does anyone know if the US Bishops have published a full translation of the New Rite of Excorcism? And if so, how does one find it?

Thanks!

I think I might have found it on this page. It’s on a PDF file, so I’m not sure how to link it here other than the web page: geocities.com/athaumaturgus/resource.htm

Click on the link that says “The Novus Ordo Rite of Exorcism” and it comes up. I hope this is what you were looking for.

The author of the translation provided at that site is a self styled “bishop” who is not in communion with the Catholic Church and whose credentials are dubious. To my knowledge, the USCCB has not issued an approved translation.

Since it is not for general use, and offers every chance for do-it-yourselfers to get into trouble, I think distribution of the official translation has been rather tightly controlled.

Thanks .

I agree that it is probably not readily available to the public.

I think that a lot of people get in trouble thinking they can get rid of demons. They end up killing the person who is possed by demons and end up in jail for a life-time. I heard about several stories like that recently.

It is best to leave it to the priests who have training in exorcisms because even they can get injured by the demons.

Acts 19:13-16
Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to pronounce the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches.” 14 Seven sons of a Jewish high priest named Sceva were doing this. 15 But the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” 16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, mastered all of them, and overpowered them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

An Exorcist I’ve heard speak before mentioned that he had the hardest time obtaining a copy for himself. He had to eventually have his Bishop contact the USCCB get him one.

Hi Joe, you are so right about giving us an example of what the evil demons can do to people who think they can do their own exorcisms.
It is best to leave it to the experts.

I think that simple spirits that are earthbound can be sent to the other side. But demons are too strong in their evilness to get rid of them. They can turn on you and destroy you while a person is trying to get rid of them.

Interesting, very scary.

not too digress, but I just posted another thread asking if only a catholic Bishop or priest had the authority to perform a true exorcism…which is what I think is the case. I am reading Fr. Gabriele Amorth’s, “An Exorcist Tells His Story” and it is very informative very good. If I understand him correctly, that indeed is the case. He said that a layperson can say a prayer or blessing for deliverance, but that the rite of exorcism is for the priest alone.
Some posters, however, quoted the scripture where Jesus tells His disciples that whoever is not against Him is for Him when they are having issue with some other people that are not necessarily with them, rebuking demons??
Any opinions? And does this new statement address this. I have not read it yet.

Peace

Yes, only an Ordained Priest should perform the Ritual of Exorcism. Depending on the prayers called for, they might be the only ones actually able too (Priestly blessings and the such).
This Bishop is an Exorcist by stature of his Office. He can then assign a Priest to become the official Exorcist of his Diocese. A Priest cannot perform an Exorcism without his Bishop’s permission.
An Exorcism is actually a sacramental as well.

I have read Fr. Amorth’s book. I believe that the man from Scriptures would be doing a form of the ‘Deliverance’ prayers the good Father speaks of.
I believe he mentions Charismatic groups several times throughout the book about their praying over people and such for deliverance from the Evil One.

Thanks for the response. I would usually shy away from reading a book or even checking out a thread like thison exorcism. But to my surprise, I find that this book is actually making me take a deeper look into my interior spiritual life and really motivating me to sacrifice more and truly draw closer to the Lord through the gifts of the sacraments and the sacramentals given us.
Peace to you all…off I go to read my book…

Once you finish it, I believe Fr. Amorth has put out another, similar book entitled “More Tales of an Exorcist” or something similar. I’ve yet to read it, but I would assume it’d be a similar read.
