I know that the Holy See has approved the new roman missal, but has there been any official publications yet? The USCCB website only has study text/sample text available.

Many people have mentioned Advent 2011 for the introduction of the new missal. However, the PrayTell Blog has talked about a huge number of changes still being made so that the introduction may be postponed.

A parish priest I know had a packet from our diocese regarding the changes. I didn’t ask what was in it, but he said they had to study it.

So could you point me to what those ‘huge’ number of changes are? Aside from the changes presented at the USCCB site? I didn’t have much success when looking at the Pray Tell blog

I don’t know much about the specifics.

This post mentioned a couple of problematic changes:

“Freed from all inordinate desires” in a Lenten preface has been changed to “freed from disordered affections” – one wonders if they’ll footnote a Vatican instruction on sexual ethics?! Elsewhere, “do not allow those you have redeemed…” has become “do not suffer, we pray, those you have redeemed…” One prayer, after mentioning “your people” and “pathways,” now has this line: “lead it along them, we pray…” Surely everyone will track the pronouns in that?! “People” isn’t a singular noun anymore in your dialect of English, you say? And this was to be the papacy that brought back beauty and holiness and solemnity to the sacred liturgy. Good grief, some of these texts sound like they’re from a Monty Python skit. Or Norwegian put through a Google translator.

Mostly they just mention that changes from the original are in the works.

I found these blogs interesting. The small paragraph in 'heard in hallway at Mundelien? I think it was. It mentions ‘some 10,000 changes’. Didn’t realize it was that many.

Thanks

The rumors are flying about what is going on with the translations in Rome. A priest friend of mine knows someone at ICEL and he said about 40% of the texts will be changed. But no one knows for sure as they are really keeping it under wraps. Since the Vatican is basically shut down for summer vacation, if the final book doesn’t come out by the end of the summer we might not even make the Advent 2011 implementation date and all the materials that were done assuming we were using the translation that received the recognitio will have to be redone to fit with the new new translation. Sheeeesh!

The “tweekers” are still playing with it. The basics have been approved, now the “tweeking”. We’ll see what shows up. Nothing is officially available until next year sometime, at least for the U.S. and Canada. I hear England is getting a look this year.

There have been numerous reports that the pope will be using the new translation for the first time during his visit to the UK in September.
