I think competition is a good thing.

Matt, a convert, who runs a wonderful blog called Absolutely No Spin, recently posted this:

*I heard some news today. A new RSV-CE reference Bible will be coming this fall. It will have commentary, maps, pictures, a topical index, is associated with Catholic Scripture Study International and will be published by St. Benedict Press.

This is the whole Bible, not just the New Testament. Its not quite a study Bible but much more than a text edition. I understand this is meant to be used in the context of Bible studies or just for regular home use. It will, unlike the ICSB, have ribbons.

The motto of CSSI is “Tradition - Scripture - Magisterium” so that should make for a welcome new edition.

Hopefully more information will be coming soon. *

Now, this is exciting! It’s exciting for a couple of reasons: 1) It’s always good to have new orthodox materials around, and 2) this is going to be very interesting. Scott Hahn (and Curtis Mitch) edited almost the entire NT for Ignatius’ Study Bible. Hahn apparently is also the editor for the Gensis booklet coming out this fall. Hahn, however, has also done material for CSSI !!! Could Hahn’s most recent work (ISB) find itself competing against older materials (CSSI)? And the people at St. Benedict’s press are not dragging this out like Ignatius has been. The Bible could be out in the FALL!!!

I wonder if this work will actually ever see the light of day?

This would be a stealth edition absent Dr. Hahn who has worked to produce the Ignatius Cathoilic Study Bible New Testament. Can’t imagine he’s going to drop out a whole Bible in conjunction with CCSI.

But that might not be how it will work. CSSI might have rights over something Hahn wrote for them years ago. He might be able to stop this even if he want to. I have no idea really. I’m just saying…
