I love to have my ducks in a row, and so I’ve been trying to find a place where I can pre-order the new sacramentary (for the new translation). Does anyone know where I can do this? And I do mean a sacramentary, not a little missal. I’m ordering it for the Catholic Student Association at my college (unless, of course, someone wants to donate one in memory of a loved one, lol).

A website is preferrable as opposed to a particular store.

There will be no new ‘Sacramentary’. There will be a new “Roman Missal”.

I don’t think there is anywhere that you can pre-order yet. I don’t know about where you live but I don’t order any liturgical books except through my diocesan office because they order directly from the CCCB and we get a discount.

The Missale Romanum changed back in 2002. Right now the English translation is coming out. While they’re changing the title to the Roman Missale (no doubt as a way to try and convey that it’s the same Mass, just in a different language), I would think sacramentary would still apply as a name.

No, Rome has forbidden the use of that term because it’s not accurate.
A. The word “Sacramentary”, evidently chosen to distinguish this book containing the prayers of the Mass, on the one hand, from the Lectionary, on the other, seems nevertheless to have had the adverse effect of furthering a mistaken conception of this “Sacramentary” as a new and somewhat autonomous liturgical book for the English-speaking world. The term “Sacramentary” is not characterized by a linear historical development, and the present book also contains antiphons and other elements that were not in the ancient or medieval books commonly designated sacramentaries, at least in academic usage. Accordingly, the Congregation asks that from now on the book be referred to in English as The Roman Missal, and that the official use of the word Sacramentary be discontinued in reference to it.

If you’re in Canada, the CCCB is the place to get liturgical books. And yes, you’re looking for the Roman Missal!

Not sure how it works in other countries, though.

Bottom line: no matter what you call it, the book is not available for purchase yet, because it’s not in print yet.

Exactly. As anxious as we are, we still have to wait a little bit longer. 🙂

The USCCB has a special site for the new translation:

http://www.usccb.org/romanmissal/

Once it goes to print, I’m sure you’ll hear about it there.

Actually, the only place that has the new Roman Missal is South Africa. However, it would be ilicit to use it right now. England might be getting theirs ahead of us, as is Australia.

From what I’ve read on the blogospheres, the new translation might be unveiled in England during the Holy Father’s visit.

Scotland, from what I’ve heard, will have it featured before England.

I’m sure that once they are ready to take orders for them, the distributors will be carpet-bombing Catholic parishes with advertisements. If you’re on anyone’s mailing list for church supplies, no doubt you’ll get some kind of ads for them. Right now, there are only 2 publishers who print the current Sacramentary (Catholic Book and Liturgical Press) that I know of. All the other sources are re-sellers.

I also have no doubt that once the orders can be placed, CAF will be flooded with “I just ordered the new Roman Missal!” threads. When it happens, you’ll know:D

I am tempted to order the one from England, though. I was told by the Catholic Truth Society, the official publisher in England, to call them in August. 😃

If New Orleans were in England, there might be a chance of that!

So Pope Benedict is coming to New Orleans? When? This is the first I’ve heard of it.

No, he’s going to England. VetA saw a post about “the Holy Father’s visit,” and thought it meant he was making a trip to the United States.

He’s going to Scotland and England (I’m not sure about Wales).
