I’m surprised this site or EWTN has not had any article about this eyesore. The Our Lady of Guadalupe tilma is displayed in an ugly building, though, as in the S.G. Rotunda church, the classic good one still stands. I don’t know about the old L.A. Cathedral. Was it knocked down, replaced by the deplorable new one?

Anyway, here it is [edited]:
Renzo Piano Building Workshop Padre Pio Pilgrimage Church

If I go to the Padre Pio area, I’ll just stick with the classic architecture that inspires and informs the soul and is not just a fashion statement of the time–as pop artists opine. Well, it does teach the soul something corrupted.

This one has some old forums (“wtf” and “cr*p” are in a couple responses), plus some words from the architect. padrepio.com 's association has claimed itself a helper in this eyesore’s making.

I love the architecture, I think it’s beautiful. The only part I would change would be the weird-3d-looking cross above the altar… but still, I’d hardly call it an “eyesore”.

I take it you have never visited Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral in L.A.

Photographs do not do it justice. It is a spectacular achievement of great beauty and well suited to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Again: photographs cannot capture the expansion of spirit you feel when you emerge from the dim ambulatory into the nave. It is like walking into a cloud of tender light.

St. Viviana is now a performing arts complex. It had long been too small to meet the needs of a diocese that had grown vastly in population in the 150 years snce St. Viviana’s was built.

I don’t know. I believe the L.A. Cathedral was in Michael Rose’s book as a bad example of Catholic art. [Edited] whether a church could have different designs, I believe, is only the issue the modernists want us to believe is the real inspiration for this ridiculous excuse for a Catholic Church. Aesthetically, it is an eyesore. That green gate-looking facade, are you kidding me? Any art student who understands beauty would have to be sick after seeing it or laughing! These architects and designers have lost touch with spiritual reality, but I am afraid they know what they are doing, though I could not believe what that is is the Lord’s Will. This is a work of ego and warped minds.

Well, against my better jugement, I visited this site and downloaded their critique, which I scanned.

I would like to know how the writer/s knew so much about Masonry and Luciferian things. Hmmmmmmmm???

Well, short of divine (or diabolic) inspiration, and assuming they aren’t making it up, I’d say they’ve studied it. Masonic ritual and symbolism is not as closely guarded as it once was.

I had the impression there was a big argument about the website I posted. I posted it for all the pictures. Maybe I just blew off the numerology part and should have disassociated myself with more of it. Still, I think they had a right to complain about the place as a Catholic churches of old were not built as mere art anymore than architecture of classic banks and government buildings of old and the art therein were not built to be eye candy for men (who would probably admire it more as those two kinds were not built for women in high places then). They say something about what goes on in there. If you understood as much as the saints have said about what happens at Mass, I would think it would easily be understood the new pilgrimage church does not serve that function, but the function of modernism.
