Health researchers have found that drinking alcohol shrinks the brain:

I’m posting this because I was surprised by the amount of pubs and the large selections of wins at the grocery stores in the secular country which I’ve visited this summer, and before my fellow Muslims give credit to Islam, here are some verses from the Bible in both OT & NT that condemn alcohol, so if Muhammed had prohibited alcohol for us, then he could have taken it from the Bible or he wanted his fighters to concentrate in their wars.

(Ephesians 5:18):
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.”

(Habakkuk 2:15):
“Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies.”

(1 Corinthians 6:9-10):
Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

(Galatians 5:21):
and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

(Hosea 4:10-11):
They will eat but not have enough; they will engage in prostitution but not increase, because they have deserted the LORD to give themselves to prostitution, to old wine and new, which take away the understanding”.

(Proverbs 20:1):
Wine is a mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led astray by them is not wise.

(Proverbs 23:29-30):
Who has woe? Who has sorrow? Who has strife? Who has complaints? Who has needless bruises? Who has bloodshot eyes? Those who linger over wine, who go to sample bowls of mixed wine.”

Sam_777, alcohol is only harmful when it is drinked in excess; moderation is key. Drinking alcohol in moderate quantities actually has health benefits:

The Bible is not against all alcohol–after all, the first miracle of Jesus was to transform water into wine–only against its excessive use. Here are some other things the Scriptures have to say about alcoholic beverages:
Ecclesiastes 9:7

Psalm 104:14

Amos 9:14

John 2:1-11; Matthew 26:29

1 Timothy 5:23

Drinking alcoholic beverages in itself is not sin. However, if reduced judgment from drinking cause one to sin, then it is time to moderatte. If that does not work, it becomes time to quit, no matter how much one loves it.
And if your right eye is a cause of trouble to you, take it out and put it away from you; because it is better to undergo the loss of one part, than for all your body to go into hell.
Matt 5:29

Whew!! Thankfully, nothing in the article about bratwurst.
Sorry, a little Lutheran humor there.
Thomas Aquinas “Gluttony denotes, not any desire of eating and drinking, but an inordinate desire… leaving the order of reason, wherein the good of moral virtue consists.”
I saw this quote somewhere. Look, eating too much is unhealthy.
It is probably a sin. But we don’t condemn eating because people overeat. Excessive drinking and eating violates God’s word and will.

The study says:
The study, which was based on an analysis of drinking habits and brain volume in nearly 2000 US adults between 1999 and 2001, found that while the brains of people who never touched alcohol occupied nearly 78.6 per cent of their cranial space on average, this dropped to about 78.2 per cent in people who previously drank but had since quit, and dropped again, to just under 77.8 per cent, for moderate drinkers.

Heavy drinkers were lower still, at 77.2 per cent.

Brain size shrank by an average of 0.25 per cent going from one drinking category to the next highest, which was larger than the average annual decline normally associated with ageing of 0.19 per cent.
The problem I find with all these alcohol studies is that the researchers rarely differentiate between different alcohol.

For example, the studies done on pregnant women who drink alcohol did not comprehensively research alcohol with tannins versus alcohol without tannins.

  1. Not really new information, rather confirmation of a correlation. Autopsies for the past couple centuries have left very little doubt in the scientific community about the effects of alcohol on the volume of the brain.
  2. Technically, alcohol is not condemned in the Bible, rather we are instructed not to consume to the point of debauchery.
  3. Out of curiosity, why is this in Non-Catholic Religions?

In other news: pointy things hurt, fire burns you if you touch it with your bare hand, and dropping something heavy on your foot is generally a bad idea. 😉

I don’t know why we need a scientific study to point out the obvious. 🤷

No! The jury is still out on pointy things and fire. They are after all just a theory. 😉

Well obviously because if it’s not scientifically studied and proven to be scientifically true, then it’s not scientific fact 😉

There are facts, scientific facts, common sense and stating the freekin obvious - hence

I once believed my small brain was due to it being in proportion to my small stature. Fact.

Tonight I know it’s JD’s fault 😛 - Scientific Fact.

I will as a result write dribble - Common Sense (conclusion)

I can be incredibly dumb - Stating the Freekin Obvious !!!

😛 😛 😛

there is a huge difference between someone who takes a drink once in awhile and a drunkard…

you must be Protestant

The Bible also says (NT) to “take a little wine for your stomach.”

Jesus changed water into WINE (not grape juice) and he drank wine at the Last Supper…

also there are scientific studies that prove alcohol in moderation is healthy… esp red wine… but even whiskey, etc… One woman i read about who lived to be over 115 said she drank a little whiskey in her tea every day… and one man who lived to about the same age (still alive last time i heard… at over 116)… drank beer every day… Beer has a lot of good things in it…

So what’s the big deal about shrinking your brain??

bigger isn’t always better, ya know…

The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said, ‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’ (Luke 7:34)

Are those who forbid drinking saying the same thing about Jesus? 🤷

Though I’m assuming you were being flippant with this remark, it technically rings true.

Homo neanderthalis had a much larger brain to body ratio than do we Homo sapiens, yet whose brain was capable of constructing airplanes, discovering the atom, and understanding calculus?

Now there’s some food for thought 😛

I’d rather have a bottle in front of me then a frontal lobotomy.
Cute!

As an aspiring Neuroscientist, I graciously ask your permission to print and frame this little gem.

Because sometimes they show that conventinal wisdom is wrong. Like when research found spinach wasn’t as healthy as we use to believe.

Also you can learn a lot about the why of things and find new stuf from that.
