New scientific study: brain shrinks when drinking alcohol.

Sam: Thanks for posting that study, and those verses. As others have pointed out, alcohol itself is not technically forbidden in the Bible, but intoxication is. I personally know some Catholics that drink wine on special occasions (perhaps on a holiday with family), but never to the point of getting drunk. No Christian condones intoxication, and indeed it is not defensible from a religious or medical viewpoint.

Regarding the large number of pubs and alcohol sections in stores in the West…yes, this is a fact of life, no matter what your religion is. Because of my Christian conviction that God blessed us with free will so that we may willfully turn to Him, we are also unfortunately able to willfully turn away from Him through our sin. So alcohol is there for those who will indulge in it, and for those who will not we may choose to forbid it in our homes, and to refuse it when offered in the homes of others.

I personally feel that I can be a better Christian if I continue to refuse it, because alcoholism unfortunately runs in my family so I do not want to take any chances, but if others enjoy it in a way that does not take their focus away from God, then I think it can be acceptable.

Though I’m assuming you were being flippant with this remark, it technically rings true.

Homo neanderthalis had a much larger brain to body ratio than do we Homo sapiens, yet whose brain was capable of constructing airplanes, discovering the atom, and understanding calculus?

Now there’s some food for thought 😛
yeah, for sure… but modern man also invented fetus research… abortion on demand up to 9 months… and then we even had the audacity to keep calling ourselves a Christian (or at least godly) nation…

Please pray for the END of Roe v Wade…

Life is the most important issue…

Without life… there is no need for any other right… (obviously)…

So, in other news…Sky Is Blue, story at 10.

Most people don’t know that Einstein had a teeny tiny lil brain. 😃

hmmm… i knew that but had forgotten…

My brain is probably kinda big… :whacky: 😃

In volume, yes, but in density no.

His cerebral cortex was highly folded = higher surface area = more number of synapses = likely increased intelligence.

😃

i’m glad i’m Catholic so i can drink!! (in moderation, of course…) 🙂
I’m still getting used to it. I had my very first alcoholic drink a few weeks ago (I’m 23) and one beer had me feeling pretty lethargic.

True that, about the cortical/density stuff re: Einstein. I just think it’s cute! 😉

Oh, and beer can make you drowsy not just from the alcohol. Hops have a fairly pronounced soporific effect on some people.

Ah and here I thought it was just being the lightweight former-Mormon that I am.

In that case, I better get to practicing!

Health researchers have found that drinking alcohol shrinks the brain.
I know it makes mine do!

…I don’t have any to spare, without losing some rather important functionality, so no more guzzle, guzzle, beeeeeeeeeeeelch for me. :shamrock2:

(( …'cept maybe on S’Paddy’s day… ))

and lethargic is a bad thing? 😃

I wish, in that case, that the members of NOW & NARAL would start drinking… heavily… maybe they would be too lethargic to get their diabolical work done…

in any case did you hear about the man who was over 115… and he drank beer every day for most of his adult life? Beer has a lot of good nutrients in it… as does red wine and other alcohol. People who drink live longer than those who don’t… I’ve studied this for some time…

i must add thatt those who drink a lot generally do not live as long as those who abstain completely…

I’m a very busy guy, so the little bit of free time I get I don’t want to ruin by just going to sleep 😛

Now I wish one could live to over 115 by drinking HARD liquor. That would be cool. (I’ve noticed I prefer rum to beer. No lethargy and more fun!)

i studied this… and found many people who drink hard liquor (sm amts) do live longer… One woman was over 110… (i think 114) and she said she put whiskey in her tea every day…

Alchol and fermented stuff is healthy… 🙂

Ouch. Probably not anything good considering alcohol and heroin are the two drugs one can die from withdrawals.
where did you learn that you can die from heroin withdrawal? this has been debated amongst my friends and from what i can tell death from heroin is extremely rare or linked to another underlying problem.

… and in no means am i trying to make heroin benign. i have lost several friends to it.

Thank you “dzheremi”, that was a logical comment.
