Anyone seen this new show on Nickelodeon? It’s an animated show about a family (surname Loud, hence the show’s title, The Loud House) with 11 children. The main character, Lincoln Loud, is the only boy. His interactions with his 10 sisters form the basis of each episode’s plot.

When I first saw it I was turned off by the animation style, which is typical of today’s animated shows (character design is heavily stylized and involves a good deal of caricature). However I soon began to enjoy the show as I watched more of it. The humor is frenetic, also typical of today’s animation; but it’s good natured and there is no real animosity between the siblings even though they are always arguing. Most of all it is so refreshing to see a large family depicted in popular media, in a (more or less) positive way.

I’m particularly struck by the fact that each of the ten sisters has a distinctive characterization - they aren’t depicted as being copies of each other. Hence, none of them seems to be redundant. It’s a subtle repudiation of the anti-natalist mentality so commonplace today, or least that’s how it comes across to me. I’m not saying the creators of the show are trying to give that message, I’m sure they just see it as an opportunity for humor. But that doesn’t take away from the merits of what I see in the show.

I’ve seen The Loud House a few times and it’s enjoyable to watch. It can be pretty funny.

I saw this over the weekend at my sister’s house. Lincoln was set on getting the youngest sister, Lily (who is a baby) to like the same things he does because, “I can’t believe that I have ten sisters and none of them like the same things I do!” and next thing you know, all the other sisters are vying against each other to get Lily to like what they each like.

It was pretty funny!

I was just thinking…they must be catholic…and it looks like im not the only one that thought this…i have two kids i would like more…but it’s hard with todays economy…am i wrong to think this?
