Every dollar you spend towards a charity that promotes ill health is a dollar you could spend to a charity that aligns with your mission.

If your mission is simply to destroy PP, then it makes sense to donate to other groups that are doing this.

If your mission is actual promotion of health, then it doesn’t make sense to ignore all the bad. If you donate a dollar to a clinic that gives contraception and to a clinic that doesn’t, why not just give both dollars to the clinic that actually aligns with your view?

I don’t think I’m being “intense” in this. You are right; it is your money and you get to decide who gets to play with it. Where it goes will ultimately depend on you and what missions you support.

I just happen to support promotion of health over destruction of charities I don’t like. The enemy of my enemy does not make them my friends.
My mission right now is to not allow the only reaction to SGK’s courageous decision be the defunding and denunciation of SGK… Especially when there are people on their Facebook page saying SGK is going to lose so much more than they gain by this decision because “right-wing anti-choice haters” don’t care about women’s health and give far less to charity than liberals. This is not true and I want to show SGK that we have their backs in this pro-life decision.

To be fair, my reaction is not in response to their split with PP.

My reaction is because they’re doing things contrary to what they say they’re promoting.

That makes sense, and I understand. I merely want to support their pro-life decision.

Do you directly or indirectly utilize PP?

Planned Parenthood is not a charity. Mistake on your part?

This! To be honest, I don’t trust them completely anyways, but I don’t want any other organizations to be afraid because of negative repercussions SGK receives for their announcement.

BTW, I read this as well:
“We haven’t defunded Planned Parenthood,” she said. “We still have three grants that we’ve committed to, at least through another year until the end of the grant cycle.”

Not completely sure about the situation.

Ugh. So Denver’s PP has an exemption and will be funded for at least another year. Why? There are plenty of clinics that provide mammograms!

Sounds like there’s still a battle going on inside Komen for control of the money. Stand by…

Do I give money to PP? No.
Have I ever used PP services? No.

Do I give my money to SGK? No.

My concerns about SGK started long before they split from PP. My distaste for them isn’t a new thing. I find the charity to be rather unethical. This most recent decision isn’t reason enough to suddenly start supporting them.

I just feel that the other issues are important enough that I can’t, in good conscious, ignore them.

Posted on the wall. I am shocked at some of the ignorance.

Well, I personally think that “fighting breast cancer” as a cause is somewhat overhyped in general. This is not to discount the many women who suffer from it. But it’s also true that so many women are deathly afraid of getting breast cancer while being relatively oblivious to the fact that heart disease is actually the number 1 killer of women, and even among cancer types, lung cancer actually kills more women than breast cancer; but unfortunately, lung cancer seems to have an almost AIDS-like stigma these days, that people who get it somehow “deserved it” because most of them smoked. And while breast cancer is seen as a “women’s issue” men can get it, too.

All that being said, though, I think that if someone wants to send the message to Komen that many people do support and approve of their decision then that’s well and good. You don’t even have to give them money for that. Especially because the mainstream media narrative seems to be that they did something really stupid out of fear of what those crazy right-wing anti-abortion fanatics would do. Yet for some reason, while pro-lifers pressuring a group to NOT fund PP counts as nefarious “political pressure”, pro-choicers pressuring a group TO fund PP, is perfectly legitimate outrage. sarcasm Even if you don’t personally think Komen is a group worth supporting, perhaps another organization thinking of either linking up with PP for the first time, or divesting themselves from PP, will see what’s going on and take notice.

From the St. Louis Review’s Facebook page:

Komen has reversed its decision and will now fund Planned Parenthood. The pro-abortion lobby spoke LOUD AND CLEAR, criticizing Komen. It’s time for pro-life people to contact Komen about this. Don’t let the only voice heard be the pro-abortion lobby and Planned Parenthood. The pro-abortion people and their legislators jumped on Komen’s decision to stop Planned Parenthood grants immediately as “anti-woman” – speak up now!

Yeah, and Mr. Bloomberg from New York donated $250k. I cry foul on this whole bit. They claim to pull funding from PP, a bunch of pro-lifers donate money to ease the backlash from the pro-choicers during this time, then 24 hours later they reverse their stance and a bunch of pro-choicers donate to show their support for funding PP. They got a ton of money from both sides over the past 3 days. Something isn’t right here.

Oh, man…now that you spell it out like that…What a cheat this seems like! Even if they are “only” trying to play both sides of the game and not lose either group of possible donors, chances are good they made just about everyone angry!

My boycott will remain and only grow stronger. Despicable.

I’m very upset. I made a fairly large donation yesterday in hopes that they would stand strong against the pro-choicers, but I guess they made a fool out of me.

Come on people. Look at the what the Komen organization did.

Choosing to support an organization that murders children (Komen supporting Planned Parenthood) is not a mistake. It’s a decision at the highest level of importance. Anyone that would make that decision in the first place should be prayed for, but it would be foolhardy to trust anyone or any organization that used such poor judgment. It would be better to simply send your funds to an organization that does not have a track record of evil.

It is not surprising that the Komen organization flipped. They didn’t have a strong moral core to begin with.
