Are friars catholic? What is the difference between friars, priests and monks?
Friars are indeed Catholic. Friars differ from monks in that they are called to a life of poverty in service to a community, rather than cloistered asceticism and devotion. Whereas monks live cloistered away from the world in a self-sufficient community, friars are supported by donations or other charitable support. Friars are priests, not all monks are priests. They can be brothers too. Priests, as you probably know, are allowed to celebrate Mass and perform the Sacraments of the Church. Brothers cannot. They are not ordained. They simply live a monastic or active life of prayer. Are friars catholic? What is the difference between friars, priests and monks?
