I don’t think I am in the wrong denomination. Every church, even those of the same denomination, seem to have different ideas, so while one church believes what the article said, another church might believe what I have interpreted. Maybe I have just misunderstood my church’s view on the Eucharist all along.
[Bolded emphasis mine.]

See, this is what is beautiful about the Catholic church. It is consistent everywhere. 🙂

And yes, C. S. Lewis rocks! 👍

Hi and welcome!

We hope that you feel free to ask us anything about our faith, too!

Look forward to “seeing” you here. 🙂
I would like to know what Catholics believe about there being fire in Hell. There are so many metaphors in the Bible, I wasn’t sure if the fire that is mentioned is literal or a metaphor. In my view, I see it as a metaphor of feeling terrible pain from rejecting God.

Were you born into and raised in the denomination or did you convert to it? If you converted to it, what drew you to the denomination?

You are right. Even within Catholicism there are those who do not believe in the real presence. I just wanted to make you aware of what your Church (seems to me) to be teaching on the subject.
Maybe I have just misunderstood my church’s view on the Eucharist all along.
I encourage you then to look into the belief and why your denomination affirms it. What a better place to start than a Catholic web-site 👍

God bless you

With all due respect, bayouman was not right and there is a distinction we need to make here.

The Catholic Church’s teaching is consistent, all over the world. Where as with Protestants, each denomination does teach differently. There is no consistency.

However, the individuals, the people themselves, those Catholics, there are some who believe differently. But that is separate from the Catholic church herself and doesn’t make the Catholic church inconsistent in her teachings. Just the individual believers. 🙂

Matthew 26:26-28

26 While they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.”
27 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, "Drink from it, all of you;
28 for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.

When Jesus says "this is My body and this is My blood.

Why should I take that literally? When Jesus spoke he used metaphors and parables all the time…why would this event be any different?
and to a new thread you shall go, or just search for one of the gazillion threads on this topic already. Please no thread jacking with rest respect to OP, unless you too are Methodist and are putting in your .02 cents 🙂

Why would you take Matthew 1:24-25 literally then, as you are doing in the thread you started abut Mary’s virginity?

This is what I mean when I say that protestants “cherry pick” their “sola scriptura” beliefs.
Because Matthew 1:24-25 isn’t Jesus speaking…

Its not cherry picking…its called Bible hermeneutics.

The Eucharist is the topic 😛 No thread jacking here.

Hello everyone!

This is my first thread on Catholic.com. I am a Protestant Christian (United Methodist).** If you have any questions about the practices or beliefs of the United Methodist Church, feel free to ask me anything.**
The Eucharist is the topic 😛 No thread jacking here.
No Asking questions about practice or beliefs of the UMC is the topic, again if your are UMC please feel free to carry on, but now we’re digressing.

No disrespect taken, however if you go back and read bayouman’s original statement you will find he was correct. Different churches do have differences of opinion of the real presence.

The Catholic Church is clear and consistent on what it teaches however this does not stop people claiming to be Catholic from denying the Real Presence. You have never met someone who stated they were Catholic and denied the Real Presence?
However, the individuals, the people themselves, those Catholics, there are some who believe differently.
This is what I said. 😉

GodisGracious, I don’t remember ever saying that the Catholic Church was inconsistent in her teachings. Here is what I said:

Roman Catholic, perhaps I was being too nit picky. Also, even more so, I should have reread your post to fully understand rather than shoot off a reply.

GodisGracious,

Not a problem. You are not the first to misread a post on a forum and you certainly wont be the last.

God bless you

I have been United Methodist for my whole life.

I have been United Methodist for my whole life.
Then my question about what drew you to the denomination does not apply 😉 Unless of course you would like to tell us what keeps you in the denomination.

I cannot think of any more questions off the top of my head but I will come back if I do.

I still encourage you to look deeper into your denominations belief on the Real Presence and why they affirm it.

God bless you and welcome to the forums.
