New to the brown scapular

I got my brown scapular in the mail a week or so ago, and since today was the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, I decided to get it blessed today. The pastor at my home parish doesn’t see people on Thursdays, and the other parish where I attend mass didn’t have a father available, so I had to go to another parish, but it was an amazing experience. The father knew exactly what I was asking for and even recognized that today was a good day to do it because of the feast day. I’m wearing my scapular now and it is wonderful. I feel even closer to the Mother.

Now I just have to make sure I do the obligations right. I’ve looked at a couple of websites and I think that I understand. Basically it’s a daily set of prayers or a daily rosary? Also, I already do the fish and no other meat Fridays, but I don’t think that I could add Wednesdays. If I understand it, it’s not necessary to do the fasting with it, even though it is recommended. Am I correct on that? Any other information on it you wish to share is appreciated. I just want to make sure that I do everything right. Because of logistics I couldn’t do the confession and Eucharist in the same day for the indulgence, but there are other indulgences associated with it and the indulgences aren’t my reason for wearing it. Thank you.

It’s not “a set of prayers.”

You can say the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Liturgy of the Hours, or the Rosary. Most people choose the Rosary.

The fasting isn’t that hard – just one regular meal a day, and two light snacks. There is no restriction on what you drink, but I abstain from alcohol on those days.
