Well, I’m at 31 yrs. of praying the Latin Mass & this includes Low Masses, Sung Masses & even the much defamed Dialogue Mass (which I kind of liked). I attended the TLM. daily for 28 yrs. before Vatican II & now…3 more yrs. since the Motu Proprio & I’ve NEVER seen anyone “tap a person on the shoulder” for anything. I have however, been tapped on the shoulder SEVERAL times at the Novus Ordo Masses I attended for almost 40 yrs. People felt they needed to “remind” me to shake hands with everyone near & far, & to raise my hands high at the Doxology. It is strange, isn’t it? I can understand the awkwardness of having a churchfull of people trying to makes all the responses at the Prayers at the Foot of the Altar, that sort of thing, but something’s just a little screwy when you see, as I have, someone come over and tap a person on the shoulder to make him stop singing along, in a low voice, with the Credo. ** Egad, joining in the profession of one’s own creed?! ** Just wear a clown suit and get it over with!
I might have missed the tapping at the TLM., I don’t make a habit of watching what others are doing…but I think I’d have noticed.
