New translation of Missal coming in September

The preparation is terrible. Music would have to be recomposed, the new text catechetized, instructed, new missalettes prepared, printed.

The propers are still not available for the public, which means anybody outside of those who control the information. Those who oppose the new translation delay the printing of the books.

Music has been recomposed, and the new text is being catechized.

As far as missalettes go, I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m sure that’s already in the works. In my experience, the people doing the missalettes probably already have the text. When Canada changed its Lectionary, it was supposed to be implemented in all parishes on the First Sunday of Advent 2008. A glitch at the printers delayed the implementation until Pentecost 2009 but the missalettes all had the revised version starting with the First Sunday of Advent.

Does it really matter that the Propers aren’t available to the public? It’s not our worry since we only have to listen to them, not say them. The new text of the Ordinary has been available of 2 or 3 years, with a minor tweak in 2010.

The Ordo of the Mass less then one tent of the total text. Not for one single Mass, but for all the Masses throughout the year.

In my Church the propers (Introit, Gradual, Offertory, Communion) are sung by choir. The rubrics recommend this explicitly. That needs preparation, long preparation, composition, printing the notes, make them familiar with the members of the choir. It makes significant difference weather the propers are sung or adlibited hymns found or made by the local guitarists.

Hi,
Last week at our usual gathering this issue came up, it was not particularly well received I hadn’t time to really ask why, any ideas? From what I could gather the language usage ie thee, thou appeared to be once source of irritation, a case of going backwards. I personally am excited about it.

I’m not sure where you heard this, but it’s a false rumour (likely someone spreading FUDD (Fear Uncertainty Doubt and Disinformation) because they don’t like the new translation). If you want to take a look at the actual text, look on the US Bishops website here (there have been minor changes since, but as far as I could tell they mostly affected the proper prayers for the year, and they also didn’t include any thee’s or thou’s as far as I saw).

Thank you very much, we will be meeting once again tomorrow and I will certainly be enlightening them and pass on the website, I have just had a quick look and the wording reminds me of when I attended Mass when much (much) younger, it’s beautiful.
 
I would be enthusiastic about beginning tomorrow. The current version sounds like a controlled-word 3rd grade reader.
 
There was a write up in the Oregonian this week-end concerning the change…the examples they gave seemed benign to me. The article said the new translation was supposed to convey better what the Latin really meant. The English translation in the venacular is dated only from the '60’s…so a new translation to relay the “original intent” would seem to be a welcome development I would think.
