New unwanted road

Hey guys, I just found out that the city might be putting in a road right across the street from our house, to lead to a new development they’re planning on building. We have tons of little kids in our neighborhood, and we definitely don’t want this new traffic. Honestly we don’t even want the development; the fields that are there now are big and beautiful and EMPTY. But this road is not okay; it would even go straight between two houses, endangering both the kids who live there, and causing the property value to drop like a stone. The whole thing is just generally unpleasing, and we’re trying to fight it, but we don’t know how well it’ll go. Please pray for us all, that we can win successfully, and prevent at least this road from coming through. St. Joseph, St. Jude, pray for us! Jesus, we trust in you. Have mercy on us, and Your will be done. Amen.

Perhaps it is too bad you did not purchase that property - then you could do with it whatever you wanted - leave it

I am often amazed that people will purchase property because there is vacant land nearby - I guess not realizing that once upon a time their property occupied land that was “big, beautiful and empty” and the road that provides you access did not exist and thinking it will forever be unchanged.

I once attended a neighborhood meeting where a gentleman objected to a development - he wanted the owner to keep the land as a pasture - complete with one sheep on it because he did not want the houses built compete with a road to provide them … he liked to drink his coffee in the morning watching the sun shine on that pasture with the sheep in it … I wondered why he had not ever considered purchasing the property - complete with the livestock … if it was so important to him … :rolleyes: This property had houses virtually on all four sides … but it was a very large undeveloped parcel 😉

I realize this is not the sympathetic support you desired - but property especially close to other development will eventually be developed … your open views potentially will become neighbors unless you utilize your resources to buy the property and keep it as you see fit It is unfair to expect someone else - who probably bought the property in order to develop it - to lose their investment …

Teach your children not to play in the road, to look both ways before crossing the road. Children live near roads and need to learn how to function in and around vehicles …

My sister’s sister in law was outraged that they were developing the land at then end of her neighborhood. She and her neighbors went to the board of aldermen to protest. Do you know why? Because the developer was building “poor people houses”. The planned houses were only going to be worth about 200k each. I mean, would you want your children playing with the children of people who can only afford a 200k house? SIL moved to that neighborhood to avoid riff-raff like that! Not to mention that it would ruin the property value of “normal houses”!

In the UK, new housing developments have to have a percentage of “affordable housing”, which is often run by a housing association for lease to low-income families. It’s only right and proper, we have a great shortage of decent housing for poorer people here.

I feel for you … we have a new Town House complex that went up behind our homes … took the water view we had away … however we have some good news out of it … our homes doubled in value because of the high value of the Town Houses … but more traffic in the area is certainly a worry … so you have my prayers …

Perhaps, coming from the UK, you didn’t catch the irony of my sister’s SIL’s position. To put it into perspective, the house I own is a split level with a large corner lot in an excellent school district and we paid $130,000 for it.

Praise be to God, the buyers backed out of the deal - the land was too wet to use! (We knew that, heh). Thank you all so, so much for your prayers! The church on the corner is thinking of buying parts of the lot to sell off in bigger parcels, allowing for a small addition in housing, rather than the miniature lots that were going to be mass-produced. Thank you!!!
