At an 11:00am Mass on Monday June 9th at the Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel I and 4 other novices will be making our first profession of the vows of Chasity, Poverty, and Obedience with the Order of the Brothers of the Blessed Lady of Mount Carmel.

Also, five new novices are being received into the Novitiate at Evening Prayer on Sunday June 8th.

Please pray for all of us.

After the lunch that follows the profession I am loading up a uHaul truck and heading for our house in Washington, DC.

My prayers are with you all.

I’m in the beginning of my discernment. I love hearing about others’ progress.

All of you will be kept in my prayers for long and fruitful vocations of service to Holy Mother Church. I thank you all for this. Please keep me in your prayers also.
Prayers and blessings for you all
Deacon Ed B

Always pryers going up! Hope to see you in your Mount Carmel here one day!🙂

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death, Amen.

Congratulations!!! Are you going to D.C. for studies?
Yes. I start a summer philosophy course at CUA on Monday to fulfill the philosophy requirements and then will start the MDiv program at WTU in August.

Congratulations = you will remain in my prayers
Prayers & blessings

A month late here, but hope it went well. You are are in my prayers.!!🙂 :gopray: :gopray2: :highprayer:

Congratulations, belated but heartfelt.

Each day I pray one Rosary for all the living and deceased members of the family of Carmel. You’re in there! But I’ll add a special one just for you and your intentions - one hitch - I’ll ask you to do the same for me.

Is the Carmel where you are strict enclosure? Will you be leaving the world after studies? Do they have a website?

I ask because I support a Carmel in Wyoming, the makers of Mystic Monk coffee! They are completely enclosed which is truely beautiful. Oi…if I had been raised Catholic I would have loved it…hmmmmmm, might be a good thread topic: How many folks day dreamed of becoming a religious growing up and life happened?

Peace,

Gail

I will.

No, we do not have the strict enclosure. This has never been part of the Carmelite Chrism. I am with the O.Carm., even with the Discalced, St Teresa never wanted the men to have the strict enclosure, only the women.

But we do have hermits.

I feel called to the active life though.

The monks in Wyoming are great but they are not affiliated with either the OCD or the O.Carm., I believe that they are a Private Association of the Faithful under the local bishop.

Glad to hear from you Brother Dave.

My spiritual director just gave a retreat at our mount Carmel here…on the Sacrament of Love. The Holy Eucharist. The price is getting too high for me to absorb. I understand though that the monastery needs this money to keep such a big building going. 🙂

God bless you and I am still praying…👍

Well Summers over, at least in an academic sense. We are finishing up our orientation here at Whitefriars Hall in Washington, DC. Orientation at Washington Theological Union is Friday and classes start Monday. I have my class schedule.

I took a philosophy course over the summer as I needed three more credits to get the required 24 credits of philosophy. I feel sorry for those who fall under the new requirements of 30 credits. Not because of the philosophy but because of the time it will take.

I found that I truly love philosophy and would not be against pursuing an advanced degree in it after the M.Div. program finishes.

Thanks for all your prayers and please keep them coming.

Interesting thread. I have disliked school as early as I can remember. I went to college but did not finish and am now discerning my vocation. I have been told there is a priest shortage and they need some in Alaska as well as everywhere else. I don’t know if I can finish school though, because I have been away from it for awhile. I have lived a very priveleged life and always struggled with excess, so maybe I should just be a brother, but then I also feel I have been given to much as far as school and other experiences to live a quite life. Being a monk sounds nice, but lately I have realized it would also have a lot of challenges. I also feel that I may have also been called to be married but at the time shunned the idea because of its challenges. I am quite confused on what vocation is the right one and feel all I can do now is continue to work and pray looking for a way of life that fits me. Any advice would be much appreciated.:knight2:

Good Day “LC”
Perhaps you might connect with a good spiritual director who can help to guide you in your choice of vocations??
i.e. the married state? the priesthood ? or religious life as a brother? As for studies I understand that totally… if you do end up continuing your studies?? you might try a format that allows for one class each 6 weeks??? It helped me greatly as I figured if I disliked the class or had difficulties??? it was only for 6 weeks??? Best of luck to you!
I hope others reply with helpful hints, or in my case maybe not so helpful] Blessings of Peace and Good!
