This story from Yahoo! News is interesting. It is good to know the Church is still staying ahead of the game when it comes to the demonic. One of the things Satan would like for people to believe is that he doesn’t really exist. Thank God our priests are still being trained to handle such incidents.

Wow, you are quick! You beat me to it. But here goes anyways!

Vatican University Debuts Stanism Classes

The classes on Satanism are for the clergy and seminarians at Romes Ponitfical Academy “Regina Apostoloram” in response to what some religious clerics see as a rise of Satanic practices amongst young people.

“A major theme of the first day’s course was how to differentiate between a person who is possessed and someone who is simply suffering psychological problems.”

“The pontifical academy is run by the Legionaries of Christ, a conservative order, and the teachers for the class include exorcists and psychiatrists.”

“Among the signes of possession by the devil, according to church teaching, are speaking in unknown tongues and demonstrating physical force beyond one’s natural capacity.”

The course of Satanism was the topic of humor on the morning shows this morning. At least the show Dianne Sawyer and Charlie (I think is his name) hosts.

The presidents new chef, and an interview with a cast memeber of Desperate Housewives were taken as much more serious topics.

Is this idea laughable? You could tell Charlie was biting his lip so hard to keep from laughing he almost blew a gasket.

That is all well and good but I do not like when the church says, the priest must not do an Excorcism on people who are “Physically” ill? As people of Faith who are we to decide who is or not is physically or mentally Ill? THis is a fine line to walk, to decide who or not will get a magic Pill to make them happy. Bull C@!&.

There is no magic Pill that will make you happy. Faith In God alone will not make you happy. Jesus Suffered and died for our sins. If we are called to be his disciples, we too will die and suffer and we must accept this cross of ours to bear and people will persecute us for it…

Yes we must observe, people say Satan does not exist. He does exist. How much we are led to be evil or follow Satan and to what degree I do not know. If we rejected him, we should be able to live without sin but all of us sin. None of us are perfect.

And why do people follow Satan, another stupid course. People follow Satan because he misleads them into thinking he is God.

The Church does not do exorcisms on people withough 1st sending them to a doctor to see if they can be cured conventionally.

At least the clergy are not suppose to.

What you said reminds me of something that happened last week…A student in my theology class tried making “theology talk” by saying that a crucifix told her that Satan wasn’t real, so she didn’t have to worry…

I did what anyone in their right mind would do and told her that Satan was true, and that Jesus encountered him while fasting in the desert…The conversation was rather lengthy, but I got the point across to her.

Almost makes you wonder if Satan could posses a crucifix. Doesnt it?

It does make me think about it, but I would hope not. Since this happened in my Catholic high school, the Bishop blessed every room individually. A blessing can’t just wear off, can it?

From a logical standpoint, it would make sense that a crucifix couldn’t be possessed, because the image of Christ is on it, and that demons can’t dwell in a room that has been blessed. Given those two evidences, I ponder whether or not this girl was telling the truth or lying.

Either way, though, it’s bad, because sooner or later, she will start believing her lie. And if Satan or a demon did tell her this, well, that just opens up whole world of problems.

Just a simple statement here:

It is good that to fight your enemy (Satan), you need to know more about him to defeat Him. (i.e. a good defense is a great offense).

Of course Christ defeated Death ont he Cross and Satan has already lost, but since WE are in Time, we still have to go through the struggle until we are ‘outside of time’, too.

Once again, chalk one up for the Church of Rome!

God IS with Us!

I can’t agree with you more, Edwin. People can’t get anywhere in the battle against Satan if they don’t have ammunition and a good defense.

Like you said, my ammunition is a good defense. When someone says something regarding Satan or demons, I fight back with defense, because my defense is also my offense. If you can refute everything your opponent says, you have just fired back, leaving them unable to make their point.

This would be a good question for a priest on apologetics. I am pondering the possibility. I belive Padre Pio said it is possible for Satan to take the form of a sacred object.

Hi,

I am in total agreement, and would like to add, why don’t they offer workshops to the laity or interested parishioners on this same subject?

I’ve had to do independent research on this topic in the past to intelligently counter the ridicule of exorcism by non-Christians; and I would love to see workshops offered by the Legionaries of Christ in the U.S. so young people can recognize the symptoms and characteristics of creeping Satanism.

Since the Order of Friars Minor, the Franciscans, give workshops at Saint Anthony’s Shrine here in Boston, I will e-mail them in regards to offering a workshop on Satanism and the recognition of evil vs. mental illness.

Should others e-mail their parishes and diocese for similar workshops?

IMHO, just read about Saint Leo and the prayer he wrote to Saint Michael. If you memorize it you will be able to say it anywhere you go. Even in your sleep. Its an awesome prayer. Also Have faith In Christ that he ordered us all as Disciples to Cast out demons. Keanu Reeves did research on it for COnstontine and said the priest he talked to said it is important to get in close contact and lay on hands. Which I had never heard of.

  1. This may be a first step in creating a course called “Introduction to Exorcisms”
  2. Father Amorth, JP II’s personal exorcist says many Bishops know nothing of exorcim, thus making it impossible for his flock to have an exorcism. But JP II has done one exorcism.
3.Yes, Satan is alive and well. The mere fact that the Vatican has seen fit to have that course introduced on this thread, agrees that Satan is alive and well.
