New Video Series Documents Pro-Life Concerns About Girl Scouts

A newly-released, three-part video series, produced by former Girl Scouts members and their families, offers compelling evidence of the Girl Scouts’ ties to abortion advocacy groups. The producers say the videos demonstrate how the Girl Scouts’ official curriculum and website connects girls to pro-abortion role models and groups, as well as explicit sexual content.

Oh no, not this again. 😛

The US Bishops are currently investigating all these claims about the Girl Scouts to see what (if anything) needs to change in the relationship between GSUSA and the Catholic Church. Until then, I say “wait and see”.

thanks for the link, watching the video now, it disgusts me the Girl Scouts connection to Planned Parenthood. No Catholic Parent should ever allow their children to be a part of this group.

Certainly, if anyone wants to avoid the Girl Scouts, that is their prerogative. American Heritage Girls is more than willing to welcome the disenfranchised.

However, I think we need to avoid knee jerk responses based on videos and blog posts that circulate the internet. I don’t think we can take all the claims at face value.

There are about 500,000 Catholic girls and women involved with the Girl Scouts. That is the size of a very large diocese. It’s easy to say (in the comfort of our internet connection) we need to simply disavow and cut the cord with the Girl Scouts, but we need to be aware that such an act would have profound consequences. That decision cannot be made lightly. We really need to reflect on that.

The US bishops are studying these claims to see if they have merit. Until then, we have the position statement from the National Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts and Camp Fire.

The Girl Scouts are listening. Every concern brought to them by NFCYM (parent organization of NCCGSCF) with regards to some of their texts has resulted in them being changed.

Whatever happened to camping? When I was in girl scouts we sang songs, cooked things, rode horses and canoes, and went on ropes courses. What happened to that?

Till then, I say “I will not buy cookies.”

I would not say this if it were just a few scattered reports of such.

Keebler makes a pretty good imitation “Samoa” anyway. (For half the price.)

I’ve been suspecious of the Girl Scouts for 30 years.
Since my daughter’s troop leader told me the % of the profits that actually was retained by the girls. Having run many fund raiser for cub scouts and soccer. We kept 40% with the balance going to the Service. Boyscouts of America has no national fundraiser.
When you consider the cookies are marked up 100% to begain with. Utilizing free sales costs. The profits are enormous. I’ved joked for years the GSA has to be a front for A cookie conglomerate. The locale volunteers were all great and my daughter enjoyed her time there.
I felt that the girls should get a larger share of the profits
This might have changed.
I spent 40 years in Mfg.Manmt
The cost basis for their Cookies is no different than any other
Cookie. With 0 sales cost.

Sad, isn’t it?

GSA should refocus on being a girl-led program, which any youth leadership program should try to be, and less on the political aspects that some adult leaders want it to espouse.

Well, this mother (if my daughters were not already grown and out of the home) would NOT wait and see, regardless of the bishop’s findings. Because the reality is that GSUSA has a long and indisputable history of linking hands with the following people:

Kavita Ramdas, the CEO of the pro-abortion group Global Fund for Women:

Dr. Johnetta Cole, abortion advocate whose radical views forced even the Clinton administration to reject from consideration for Education Secretary. Aside from being pro-abortion and pro-homosexuality, Cole is on record referring to God as a “she” and bashing Christians who proselytize and people who oppose homosexuality. She was a 2005 keynote speaker for their national convention.

Marie Wilson, founder of the Reproductive Rights Coalition and Organizing Fund, president of the Ms Foundation for Women and the founder and President of the White House Project.

Annise Parker, openly lesbian mayor of Houston, was a featured speaker at last year’s annual convention and there are more just like them.

In my estimation these women are anything BUT role models to be emulated in a Catholic home that stresses obedience to purity and chastity.
