I have been looking for a place to volunteer, where I could actually work one-on-one with those who need help in any way. A girl I used to work with wanted to volunteer also, so I thought we could do it together.

I emailed places I’d like to help at; mainly shelters. One of the responses I got back, was from a priest at a catholic shelter, where a few homeless women live in together. The priest emailed me about days and times I could come in, and he also informed me that he spoke with the women and he said at least 4 of the women were interested in having me come in and having a relationship. - this touched my heart, that they actually wanted me to come and help. I felt so happy to know that they wanted me to come. Anyway, my friend told me Mondays were good, and so I worked that out so that we could go in on Mondays, and when I texted my friend to ask her if this is OK, she did not respond. I texted her again and she did not respond. She texts me about other stuff though, but doesn’t answer this.

My issue is - this shelter is not in the best area, and I wanted to go with another person to be safe, but if this girl doesn’t want to help, I still do. But, I don’t know if I feel comfortable in this area. What should I do??

God bless you for having such a warm, generous heart 🙂

Perhaps if you explained the situation to the priest you’ve been in contact with, he could help you find a solution. If, for example, there are other volunteers who also go in on Mondays, maybe one of them could arrange to meet you somewhere and you could go in together.

Because you seem to be very enthusiastic about this opportunity, I hope you can find a way to make it work. You are in my prayers!
