The new confirmation rite’s form is: N…………… be sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit

What is the “gift of the Holy Spirit?” There are many gifts of the Holy Spirit. It could also mean the Holy Spirit is the gift, which is more likely, but why the ambiguity and no mention of the cross, chrism, or sign of the cross?

Before Vatican II, it was this: **I sign thee with the sign of the cross, I confirm thee with the chrism of salvation, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.

**Why was it changed? Thanks

That’s why it’s probably the gift of the Holy Spirit. Singular definite article. Probably to remind us of Pentecost.

Read this, although it does not directly answer your question, there is a strong connectin between baptism and confirmation.
