I was looking at a tract on Catholic Answer on Jehovah’s Witnesses and it brought up the New World Translation and it’s seeming inadequacy. Does anyone know of any good books on this? Any Critiques? Thanks and God bless.
 
Montie, there are seven articles on the JW’s in the CA library. The story on their translation of the Bible is, unfortunately, spread across two of them and I don’t remember which two. None of the five men who came up with the NWT had any real qualifications to translate from old documents, so they essentially plagarized the KJV and made changes in it to fit their theology. Their version of the Bible isn’t just inadequate, it’s wrong.
 
Montie - One of the most noteworthy features of the New World Translation is it’s inclusion of “Jehovah” in 237 places in the New Testament, although there is not one ancient NT manuscript in existence that contains the Tetragrammaton (the original language letters represented in English by “Yahweh” or “Jehovah”) . In order to justify this, the WT Society advances a theory in which early “apostates” (the people responsible for making the manuscripts, including the oldest manuscripts and manuscript fragments we have available, according to them) intentionally forged the Name out of the New Testament and replaced it with the Greek words for “Lord” or “God”.

In order for this to be true, these early forgers would have had to not only remove the Name from the NT, removing it so thoroughly that not a single copy with the Name survived, but they would have had to remove any historical evidence of there ever having been a controversy over the issue, because none survives.
